It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good!

... or so said John Heywood way back in 1546 in his "A dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the prouerbes in the Englishe tongue".  I guess that statement might now relate to our new-found "spare time" while we aren't dancing.

During my "spare time", I've been poking through the software package that we use for our EOSARDA Bulletins, cleaning up some of the material that's been stored there since way back when, and exploring some of the functions available to us.  I found one opportunity that might be of interest to those of you who request EOSARDA Bulletins to advertise events or to relay other news from your clubs.  I thought I'd share my finding with you, so (if it strikes you as something you'd like to start using once we get back to dancing) we can make it happen.  It's not huge deal; however, it might be an interesting deal.

First, have a look at the top of this EOSARDA Bulletin.  You'll see the EOSARDA logo there since this message relates to an EOSARDA service.  If you check the 21 March Bulletin about the cancellation of Swing into Spring, you'll see the logo representing that dance at the top of that Bulletin.  Today's EOSARDA Bulletin including the Glengarry Tartan's newsletter is another example.  There are other examples, although not many of them.  Most of the EOSARDA Bulletins out there just start right in with the text of your messages.

The fact that there aren't many Bulletins with group logos at the top means that we (well, make the me) haven't used that functionality very much.  Regardless, we certainly can use it if those requesting Bulletins want to.

To get your logo at the top of your EOSARDA Bulletin, you need to:

  1. create a document containing your logo, in any of these formats:  JPG, JPE, JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP -- sorry, a .pdf document can't work for your logo file.  (If your document is a .png or .jpg file, remember to compress it as we ask on the Submit an Event page of eoDance.  TinyJPG does a nice job of compressing .png and .jpg files.)
  2. Send that logo file to me when you send the next request for a Bulletin ... and tell me that you want me to save it for future use for your group.
  3. Then, for Bulletin requests after that first one, remind me that I have a saved file that you want me put at the top of the Bulletin.
It's certainly easiest if you have just one logo that you'll be using.  However, it's not impossible to have more than one logo for your club.  The problem with having more than one option is that I'll need to know for sure which logo you intend for a particular Bulletin.  Therefore, we need to have a fairly idiot-proof system to tell me which logo to use.  That's not impossible, but you and I will need to coordinate our thoughts so that I don't get it wrong when I press SEND on your Bulletin.

If the above is something you'd like to start doing, just follow the three steps above.  If you have questions about how it can work, please send them my way at bulletins@eodance.ca .  If you want to continue having EOSARDA Bulletins sent out but don't want your logo on your Bulletins, just do as you've been doing all along ... send a request to bulletins@eodance.ca and I'll happily send the EOSARDA Bulletins just like I've been doing all along.  If you don't make use of EOSARDA Bulletins, then it's really easy -- you don't have to do anything at all.

Let me offer one other thought about documents in EOSARDA Bulletins.  If you already have the flyer, poster or document posted on your website, consider using a link to that web document rather than attaching the document itself.  Sending the link rather than the document will make the EOSARDA Bulletin smaller meaning that it will take less storage space and move more quickly along e-mail streams.  Recipients with slower or otherwise limited Internet access will especially appreciate it!

Let us know if we can help.
