Imperial Summer bows her golden head

The Wickets are laid low, the Bails are dead

George Francis Wilson  Summer’s Ending:

It was sad the way the cricket season ended, being yanked away like that, not quite like having a tooth yanked out but close. It should have been allowed to fade away into nostalgia like all those seasons before.
It almost seems appropriate that now we have been put under house arrest.
Still, it was a great season while it lasted. To arrive at fourth place was a great credit to all the players and coach, especially with only two games to go we were staring at relegation again.
So, all we can now do is hunker down for however long this flu thing takes us. And then, as the warm sun rises, we shall again emerge to enjoy the game.

Coach Comments

Well, the Rona has brought a close to the cricket season.
It was an interesting one as my club, North Shore, ventured into unfamiliar territory recently.
Huge amounts of learning took place in amongst the ups and downs and I’m super proud of my squad of guys who stuck to the task right until literally the last minute.
To finish fourth in our new division was amazing and to secure a T20 trophy and another top Four finish for our Reserves shows we are a strong squad, which was our goal.
I’d like to thank my wife Deborah Reid for holding down the fort at home and allowing me to do what I love.
To my manager, Mike Duncraft whose support of the team and myself is a real blessing and my captain, Michael Olsen, who I bother pretty much every single day for nine months of the year - you da man Burglar.
I wouldn’t want to be coaching anywhere else with any other group of guys.
We got something good happening down at the D and as McNuggets said - we’re not coming to take part, we’re coming to take over!

After much resistance, the Devonport Borough Council's proposal to purchase the houses on King Edward Parade that back onto Devonport Domain for high-rise, high density housing, met further resistance from high!

Mr Nelson was a Devonport resident, who fought the council for months before deciding to go right to the top and wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, Sir Keith Holyoake.
Now, that's the way you do it!

Premier Reserves Major
As our season took an unexpected early finish, it is a time for us to reflect on what a year we have as a Reserve team.
We have seen the rise of some really exciting players coming through the ranks, some players dynamically adjusting to new roles, and others finding ways to succeed by learning as they age.
Most of us who played Reserve cricket this year will feel that our highlight was becoming inaugural T20 champions, with which I agree.
However, it was not just about the result - but how as a team we went about finding success. For some, it was embracing the format and being willing to experiment in aggressive options, for some it was knowing the value of staying calm and collected in tense moments, and for others, it was looking forward to stepping up the challenge in which they found themselves. Everyone who took part in the campaign raised their game to a new level, which as sportsmen is all we can hope to achieve season after season.
While we struggled to take advantage of our ability in longer formats of cricket, I am hopeful that we as cricketers will be able to call upon a brave, daring approach, and look to take the lessons we have learnt forward into the next season.
Namely, that a game is never over until it's over as Goosey showed us against Suburbs. That the best way forward is to take control and make the opposition panic as Malav and Riley did numerous times to teams. And that being a wily customer not afraid to try new things like four slower balls an over as Watto would brag about bowling is crucial to growth. And adjusting to the games ever-changing nature.
From all of us here at NSCC Reserve Majors thank you for all the support you have offered, and we ask that you stay safe in the coming months because when cricket starts up again, we want you there cheering us on once more as we try making Shore proud of what we as a club and team represent.

Yours in cricket,
Josh Syme

Help! Help!

We still need any old Annual Reports you may have stashed away.
Specifically, we would like reports for the period 1961/62 through to 1976/77 and any prior to 1940.
No-one knows where ours went to.  They haven't been seen for over two decades at least. We need them to help fill out our history.
So, it would be hugely appreciated if you can help.

Ring the President, Kevin Robinson, on 0274934245 or email him on robinsonkasr@icloud.com and he'll arrange a pick up.

Many thanks in advance.

PS. If you have any old photos we'd also love to see them. We would scan them and return them to you.
