After more than two years of preparation, we were recently able to complete work on the book ‘The Franco-Prussian War 1870/71’. It is currently at the printers and will be available from the beginning of April.
And what a splendid work it is! On 800 pages, in two volumes with a slipcase and created in collaboration with the Bundeswehr Museum of Military History in Dresden, it illustrates the colourful variety of the German and French uniforms during a war that is today largely overlooked, although this year marks its 150th anniversary. The opening of the exhibition ‘KRIEG MACHT NATION – Wie das deutsche Kaiserreich entstand’ (‘WAR MAKES A NATION – how the German Empire was created’) at the Museum of Military History in Dresden, planned for 8th April 2020, has had to be postponed due to Corona-virus measures, and the official book presentation with it … this will definitely take place at a later date!
Over the last few days the situation has changed drastically for all of us. Direct contact with other people has been seriously reduced and cultural and social gatherings have been cancelled. We are all spending a lot of time at home, some working via home office, all of us glued to the news. This time of personal restrictions is also a time when many things have slowed down, giving us the opportunity to pay more attention to our own interests.
This is precisely why the Verlag Militaria was enthusiastically founded back in 2002, in order to share our interests with others.
