A message from the Chief Executive, Emelita Robbins

This has been a challenging month as we have all seen the impact of Coronavirus across the globe and now within our own Island community. In order to adhere to government advice, we’ve had to make a number of changes at Hospice including the suspension of our day hospice services, but our care for those living with dying continues. We are so grateful to our many volunteers whom we’ve had to step down for now, our supporters who continue to raise vital funds for us, and our dedicated Hospice team who continue to work either remotely or directly with patients.
 
As you’ll have seen in the article published in the Bailiwick Express this week, charities are really going to struggle this year and Hospice is no exception. As events are cancelled and our shops close in line with current public health advice, and donations pause as people worry about their jobs, we are going to be hit hard by the island’s incremental shutdown in response to the virus outbreak. Our shops alone bring in around £20,000 a week and so their closure will have an enormous impact on us.
 
We are asking everyone to continue supporting Hospice as best they can. Even though many will be anxious about the future, the patients that we care for need our support today. Hospice was created by the community for the community and is supported by the community. None of this has changed and today, more than ever, we need our community to continue supporting us so we can support others. We simply cannot do what we do without you and this month’s newsletter is dedicated to celebrating this. Stay safe, stay well.
