On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  John 20:19

The disciples were isolated, afraid, and disoriented. All had been going well right up until Jesus’ arrest  on Thursday night. It is now Sunday and the disciples had hiding as John says, “for fear of the Jews.” After three years of following Jesus, they now were faced with a very uncertain future.  John records the resurrected Jesus’ first words to his disciples as, “peace be with you.”

We have moved through the season of Lent and Holy Week, and now celebrate Eastertide, but we still find ourselves in a state of social distancing and stay at home orders. We have concerns about this pandemic, worries about financial chaos, and just what the future may hold for us. It is easy for us to feel isolated, afraid and disoriented, but Jesus' Easter words to his disciples are his Easter words for us today, “peace be with you.” It is this peace that passes all understanding that results in a tranquil state of the soul that is assured of salvation by belief in Jesus’ atoning death and comforted in Jesus' words that he will be with us until the “end of the age.”

Over the past several weeks we have discovered that this peace can be received and shared through our worship services found on our website, oursavioursc.com/live or on YouTube (youtube.com/oursavioursc) on Sundays at 10:30, at our midweek worship at 11:30 am every Wednesday, and during my morning devotional at 9 am every morning on Facebook Live which is then posted to OurSaviour Facebook page. If you have had any difficulty joining any of our online services, please send David or me an email: david@oursavioursc.com or karl@oursavioursc.com.

The peace which passes all understanding is also found in our small groups that are now meeting via different platforms like Zoom or Web X.  If you would like to participate and not sure how, contact us at emails above. We can help you get connected by using your phone, lap top, or desktop computer. I want to encourage you to keep connecting to each other, but also tell you that I am available by phone, FaceTime, zoom, text, email…. If you need to “just talk.”

It has indeed been a very different Holy Week and Easter, but it has been and will continue to be filled with blessings. Personally, it has increased my yearnings to see you, worship with you, and to share the Gospel with you face to face!  I pray that you stay safe, stay home as much as you can and use this time to grow closer to God, to each other and find ways to love your neighbor more and more. “May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all”  (2 Thessalonians 3:16).

Alleluia, Christ is risen!  The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!
