RAIO PRACTICE UPDATE

We hope our dear Raiolings are well despite the distinct lack of newsletter updates! We had a informal catch up last week (see photo above!)

Things are looking good for LEGALLY returning to our wonderful face-to-face practice sessions soon - the Raio Committee is working behind the scenes to secure a winter venue (so that we don't freeze) and mobilizing the hive from hibernation for a staggered return to SAMBA DRUMMING.

To that end our first return to practice will be on a WEEKEND during the day in June - and we'll communicate the date and time for these "Weekend Sessions" as soon as we have it!

As you know our regular Wednesday location has changed it's programming so we're hunting out a proper alternative for Wednesday's 6:30pm. Depending on how this goes we'll have a NEW VENUE to practice in soon; but it's also possible that we'll have to move our practice night to Monday if everything else fails - something that is a last resort as this is very disruptive!

Have a hot tip or contact for a possible new venue? Email us back so we can follow up!

ONLINE Samba Lessons

Bloco 3K have stepped up in recent weeks and have offered a wide range of great online samba drumming classes. Certainly the MVP's of the Australia samba community during the shut down!

While they are taking a break currently - we've compiled their live streamed lessons here for you to dive into and play along to at home - you don't need a drum for most of these.

You'll find all the links at the bottom of the email!

Rob Araci has curated a great range of topics and we encourage you to choose one (or two!) to help you break the rust that may have accumulated on those beautiful samba drumming hands of yours!

MESSAGE FORM ROB ARACI from Bloco 3K
Let me teach you drums! COVID-19 has hit the arts community really hard, amongst others. During this time I'm going to be teaching some online percussion classes, primarily focusing on technique for different samba instruments, but there will be some maracatu and maybe even some Afro-Cuban classes coming out too.

If you find yourself in a position where you're able to donate, then please do.

If however, you find yourself in a similar situation to me, then just enjoy and maybe you can grab me a beer sometime in the future? Maybe not? All good. Wouldn't it be great if, when we get out the other end of this thing, we're all better musicians? How awesome would that be? Love and thanks x

LIVE MUSIC - FROM YOUR LOUNGE

Miss live music? Us to! Local legends LIVE IN YA LOUNGE have stepped up and are currently doing live streams of local bands every FRIDAY and SATURDAY night!

There are really high quality multi-camera live streams in a full studio with smoke machines and lights - including a show host and interviews - so if you've been missing out on your live music fix do check it out! It's all 100% free and streamed on Facebook Live and YouTube live.

You can donate to support the artists and the company doing the heavy lifting - everyone is donating their time and energy for these events and we want to support! We're seeing if Raio De Sol can be part of this great local initiate in the coming months too!

In the mean time one we're looking forward to is on JUNE 20th with LOS CHAVOS and KOPASETIC which will see lots of live samba, reggae, cumbia and roots music from these two great bands. Find out more here!
