Wellspring Weekly News Monday of Holy Week, April 6
It was so meaningful celebrating Palm Sunday and Communion with so many of you yesterday. Although we might be temporarily separated from each other, the table of Jesus brings us together across space and time to be sustained in life-giving ways by God who gives of God's own Self. We loved seeing your pictures come in, too!
If you missed sending us your picture, no worries-- you have another chance to send one in via e-mail or text. All week long we'll be taking the photos and selfies you send us to make them a special part of our Easter Sunday service. Even better, if you can hold a note that says "He is Risen!" or "He is risen indeed!" in your photo, that would be amazing!!
During his last supper, Jesus told his disciples that "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." This week as we observe Holy Week while physical distancing, this is precisely what we're doing-- putting each other's needs first to help prevent and slow the spread of this virus. This is one small way we are laying down our lives (and what we'd normally like to do), for the sake of our friends.
Another way we show love to each other is by growing our connection with each other by showing up for each other and through meaningful service. The pastor team has heard some wonderful stories of your small groups connecting, and we've also been encouraged to see dozens of masks sewn (soon to be hundreds, at the rate they're going!) and donated to the greater community.
As the mask team continues to sew these, they will be available to our Wellspring 'ohana as well. (More details to come). Danette Fukumae has graciously agreed to be the point-person moving forward with this ministry and we're so thankful for her, for our wonderful ladies who are cutting out the masks and those who are sewing them. They're our masked heroes!
More ways to reach out to our community will be emerging in the days and weeks to come. For now, let's focus on journeying with Jesus toward the cross. See below for more details.
