THE DINING ROOM
Despite the changes going on in our lives right now, we believe it’s still important to maintain your dining room as an area of harmony and peace, where your family can sit down over a delicious meal and enjoy each other’s company. Here are some tips to add extra oomph to your dining room!
- Go bold with textiles: From tablecloths to placemats, to napkins and wall coverings the dining room presents tons of opportunities for using textiles in an interesting way. You don’t have to settle for traditional either—we encourage you to have fun and show off your personality by adding in bold and exciting prints or patterns. Our tip for ensuring they match? Stay in the same color family.
- Make a statement with lighting: The lighting over your dining room table is going to receive a lot of attention, seeing as you’ll be spending a lot of time eating beneath it. This gives you the perfect excuse to go for a statement-making lighting fixture, like a vintage chandelier or sculptural pendant. Just make sure you scale your lighting with the size of your room—the more space you have, the more lighting you’ll need.
- Anchor your table with the right rug: Dining room tables and chairs tend to look lost without a rug underneath, which is why it’s important to choose one that really ties your room together. When picking out a rug, try to stick to one that’s the same shape as your table to create symmetry. Another tip is to measure to make sure the rug is at least 24 inches longer than your table on all sides—that way guests can easily pull out their chairs without tripping over the edges.
