Easter 2020

It's a challenging time for everyone and we’re doing everything we can to help residents. Our staff are working around the clock to make sure the most vulnerable people in Oxfordshire are cared for and essential services continue to reach our communities.

In this special edition, there's practical advice about how to get support as well as ideas of things to keep you entertained, like our wonderful online library!
Over the Easter weekend we'd like people to enjoy Easter traditions, like Easter Eggs and hot cross buns, but to please stay at home and follow government advice.
It really is about is about saving lives and protecting the NHS, so staying indoors is a small price to pay. Here’s our Director of Public Health, Ansaf Azhar’s message to you this weekend.

Keeping you updated

To help you stay up to date during these usual times we’re regularly updating our latest news and how our services are being delivered with any significant changes.

Here are some great ways to keep entertained this Easter from ITV Meridian or click on the video below to view on their Facebook page.

Studying at home?

We’ve got lots of lots of free
resources
in our online library - from reference books, Britannica Online
and dictionaries to help you study
at home.

Explaining the facts about Covid-19 and social distancing

The NHS, in collaboration with Alder Hey Children's Hospital, have put together this handy guide explaining all about the virus. There's lots of great resources from The Gruffalo and friends who are telling the story of social distancing on The Gruffalo’s Facebook page. And Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler has created a free e-book explaining the coronavirus to children.

Looking after yourself and others

Even at home there are still ways we can build activity into our day. The less time we spend sitting the better. Things like gardening and climbing the stairs are all great ways to keep moving or you can take things up a notch with home exercise videos like P.E with Joe Wicks!

#stayinworkout

Join the movement with #stayinworkout from Sport England or try Public Health England’s free easy ten minute work outs. The NHS Fitness Studio has great home exercise videos too!
Age UK Oxfordshire’s generation games have a great range of low-impact exercises suitable for older residents. Head to generationgames.org.uk for more videos like this one.

Looking after your mental health

Having good mental health is especially important at this time. Every Mind Matters has advice and practical tips to help you look after your mental health and wellbeing.
What we eat can have a big effect on our mental health and Oxfordshire Mind have some great tips on what sorts of foods can help lift the spirits, as well as those which might contribute to lower moods.

Fraudsters are seeking to exploit the Coronavirus

There are many genuine community efforts to help residents; to provide good quality advice and support. But unfortunately, not everyone is trustworthy, and some people will take advantage of this unprecedented situation. In Oxfordshire, County Council’s Trading Standards has received reports of scams targeting people via emails, text messages, and on the doorstep. Become a friend against scams and take a look at our top tips on how to avoid being scammed.

Help your local community

We know during these tough times that communities can thrive together, and that’s through the incredible support between each other, so whether you are able to help shop for essentials or put the bins out for a neighbour, or even have a phone call with someone who wouldn’t get chance to speak to anyone for weeks, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved.

Helping older people

Age UK's ways to help older people has ideas on how you can help older relatives, friends and neighbours, whether with practical stuff like their shopping, or keeping their spirits up at a time things feel challenging.

Become a volunteer

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in Oxfordshire, and no more so than during this current period. We have actively teamed up with Oxfordshire All In and Oxford Together for a simple way of finding opportunities near you.

Looking for a new career in the care industry?

People in Oxfordshire have the right skills, ambition and a lot of compassion for people in their community. And we want to invite you to join a community of professionals, who care deeply for the people they support and for each other too. Find out you could become a carer or apply to the Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers (OACP).
