Staying safe and taking care of the Earth

Hello ener-G-savers,

This April marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Luckily, being asked to practice distancing from other humans does not mean we need to miss out on enjoying and celebrating the earth and this anniversary. Maybe we do so even more right now, when one of the few permissible activities is spending time outdoors. And it’s free too!

Here are some ideas:

Look for ephemerals in the woods - these tiny flowers are wonderful examples of delicacy and resilience. See how many varieties you can find!

Listen to peepers and other frogs’ concerts in the ponds and wetlands at sundown.

Plant native shrubs and flowers in your garden to provide food for bees, butterflies, and birds this summer. You could check if your local nursery delivers or has curbside pick-up.

And then, back at your computer, join our Cooler Communities team in the Eco-Challenge - we are up to 50 members, and counting, joining over 600 teams nationwide. See more below.

Ener-G-save's Cooler Communities Team at the Ecochallenge

All through April, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day we are pledging and taking action, along with thousands of people across the country, to help and heal the earth. From saving water to advocating for climate legislation, from planting healthy gardens to installing energy-saving appliances, you can choose from existing actions or create your own. You can join us here and invite your friends and family as well.

This is new: Virtual Audits

For those of you in Chicopee or South Hadley - or share this with friends who live there:

We have recently learned that customers of Chicopee Electric Light Company and South Hadley's Electric Light Department can get a free virtual energy audit during this time of "social distancing." The audit will include a virtual verification for energy efficiency rebates that you may be eligible for (this could be 50% of the cost - up to $500 - of any work you need to be done). To find out if you are a candidate for a virtual visit, call (888) 333-7525. You’ll need access to technology that can produce either videos or pictures. They will try to work with you via various voice, picture and video chatting apps.

You will receive the same standard detailed report that you would get after an in-home audit, along with rebate information. Then, they’ll mail you free LED light bulbs too!

As we told you in our last newsletter, all MassSave energy audits are on hold during this time. We’re hearing rumors that this sort of option will be available for MassSave customers soon as well. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.
