Community Mentors,
I hope this email finds you all well! These unprecedented times call for unique ways to stay connected. Although keeping in touch with your mentee right now is going to look different, I am including some ideas to keep it interesting.

I also want to acknowledge that you all have your own lifestyle changes to adjust to, so please don't put pressure on yourself right now to do it all - if none of the ideas below can work for you, give a call and we can think of something together.
Best of Luck!

Virtual "Match Meet Ups"
This is a time for learning new things - especially new forms of technology. One thing I have been learning is how to "hang out" with people online. It is not the same of course, but I have been surprised how much fun it can be. If you have access to a computer - you can learn to "Zoom" or "google hangout" with your mentee. While you are online you can play a game, paint a picture, take a virtual tour of a museum (more ideas below) - or just talk! Let me know if you want to try this and I can help you figure it out. I can even help you schedule and plan your first meet up!
Virtual Meeting Ideas
Please check out this keeping in touch page on our website to get ideas of what to do together. Ideas include book discussions, virtual tours, interactive games, and classes - all for FREE!
I am here to Help

Please let me know how I can help you feel connected!
I am available by phone (426-3013) or email any time. Please reach out and let me know how you are doing!

Myths of the Adolescent Brain

You can take this time of social isolation to study a new topic! If you haven't had a chance to see this - check out our resource from our  "Askable Adults" discussion. I still hope to one day have a discussion about the adolescent brain. We would use the following as resources.
  • Myths of the Adolescent Brain (a 4 minute video)
  • Listen to this one hour Podcast: 07 Daniel Siegel - Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain. (can also be found on itunes and downloaded on your phone -reach out if you need help getting this)
  • Daniel Siegel's book, Brainstorm. (optional, as it is long)
Let me know what you think of the video and podcast, and if sparks a curiosity to discuss these ideas with others. Looking forward to when we can be together in person again for this discussion.
