Dear HOSA Leaders,
We know that COVID-19 continues to evolve and impact each of us differently- but first, and foremost, we sincerely hope you and your families are healthy and well during this time. We wanted to inform you that National HOSA has officially announced that the 2020 HOSA International Leadership Conference will be virtual. The dates remain the same, June 24th-27th, 2020, but now in the comfort and safety of your homes.

In this week's "shelter in place" episode of The HOSA Way, we go over what we know about the virtual conference so far:
  • Conference Registration Information Update: Registration will be available either through a HOSA chapter advisor or individual member registration. The new fee is $40 per person. An online credit card payment process will be available since a large percentage of schools are not open.
  • National Geographic Learning Academic Testing Center (ATC): Those who register for the conference can take 2 complimentary tests as part of their membership. If you do not register for ILC, you are still eligible to take these tests for a fee of $10 per test.
  • Houston Hotel Reservations: While National HOSA was able to cancel and renegotiate their contract with Houston, if you have already made a hotel reservation, you still need to call and cancel your reservation for this was not automatically done.
  • Other Highlights: There will be an Opening Session, Recognition and Awards Session. A Business Session will be held for voting delegates to select the new Executive Council. Twenty or more workshops will be available for participants and HOSA will conduct 76 competitive events. More information to come!
Mark and Sam also remind students that the HOSA Scholarship deadline has been changed to April 15th. You have two more days to submit! Lastly, the Michigan Department of Education has linked helpful resources for Health Science instructors so make sure you check them out.

Also included is one of Mark's favorite TED Talks. As we continue to learn from home, we will share resources that assist in keeping our minds sharp.

Our thoughts are with you and we hope you are safe.
The HOSA Way,
Mark & Sam

TED Talk-Parkinson's, depression and the switch that might turn them off
Deep brain stimulation is becoming very precise. This technique allows surgeons to place electrodes in almost any area of the brain, and turn them up or down -- like a radio dial or thermostat -- to correct dysfunction. Andres Lozano offers a dramatic look at emerging techniques, in which a woman with Parkinson's instantly stops shaking and brain areas eroded by Alzheimer's are brought back to life.
