Sandbox printers working day and night

In coordination with local health organizations, as well as local makerspaces and businesses, the Technology Sandbox's printers are producing parts for face shields. Technology is great, but this effort would not be happening if Sandbox Technician Sean Cooney wasn't running the 3D printing, coordinating with other groups providing materials and parts, and finally assembling the finished products and arranging delivery.

If you have been following the efforts of the maker-community to help, you are probably aware that not all DIY-manufactured equipment is helpful, wanted or even safe. Which is why the Sandbox checks in regularly with the organizations we send the equipment to, to verify that what we can produce is wanted and meets their needs. So far the resounding answer has been yes!

Stay safe and connected with us. More details are available from Concordia's COVID-19 updates.

Featured Project

Just in time for Netflix and video games marathons, Sandbox user Ximena M.B. chose to 3D print a GameCube for her friend. Details were hand-painted for a great finish. If you want to print your own, download the files from www.thingiverse.com .

Did you work on an amazing project in the Sandbox? We would love to feature your project in an upcoming newsletter. Send us your photos, videos and a short project description.

Fiber MeetUp

Is cabin fever setting in? Check out the online fiber community that has been actively helping makers cope with the worldwide situation. Learn about the benefits of knitting from the Huffington Post article of March 14, 2020.

This might be the time to give a yarn hobby a go. In fact, Arne and Carlos, renowned Scandinavian authors and textile artists began a daily podcast (check out day 5 of the podcast) after they were quarantined by the Norwegian government. You can follow their journey and participate in the mystery knit-a-long that they have launched on both Facebook (Quarantine Knitting with Arne and Carlos Group) and Instagram (#quarantineknitting). The knit-along (KAL) is for everybody. Check out their YouTube channel playlist for how to knit and crochet to get you started.

Closer to home, take a look at Montrealers Tanis and Chris, hosts of the Tanis Fibre Arts podcast. They are running their home pattern and dyeing business while taking care of their three young children during this time.

Need supplies to get you going? You can still get supplies from our local yarn store Espace Tricot through their online web store.

Consider supporting your local small businesses if you can.
