Residents encouraged to modify celebrations and stay home during the Holiday Weekend

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - We recognize that, with the long weekend and the celebration of religious holidays ahead, many Niagara Falls residents will be tempted to visit with family and friends and to gather in outdoor areas. As part of ongoing efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community, the City of Niagara Falls is reminding residents the importance of physical distancing and staying home.  

We know how difficult it is to stay home at a time that is typically filled with family gatherings and faith-based celebrations, and how important these occasions are to mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. While difficult, maintaining physical distancing is important for your own health, the health of your family and the health of the community.

Residents are encouraged to adapt faith-based observances and family celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic:

• Arrange virtual visits or phone calls with family members outside of your immediate household.
• Consider online faith-based celebrations hosted by places of worship.
• Limit the number of essential trips for groceries and other necessities.

Public and social gatherings of more than five people are prohibited in Ontario, but social gatherings of any size are not recommended. This weekend, stay at home and don’t host people (inside or outdoors) who do not already live in your home. 
 
Before you head outside this weekend, remember many outdoor recreational amenities are closed in our community. Even if a green space or naturalized area is open, they are not for public gatherings and should only be used as throughways for walkers, joggers or cyclists. 
 
The following areas are closed:

• Municipal and school play structures and amenities
• Sports fields, off-leash dog parks and the skate park
• At this time, fishing remains open in Ontario, however many public boat launches, including the Chippawa Boat Launch have been closed.
