April 13th online class info -
Registration needed

Hello fellow dancer,

Yet MORE changes to report!

❤ We will now all need to register for each Monday night dance session ❤
This registration includes agreeing to a disclaimer.

Let me explain...
It first seemed that going online would be straightforward: transfer Monday evening dances to a 'Zoom'-based activity. Simple!
Yes and no: other unforeseen issues have arisen.
Adjusting to the Zoom platform has already been a steep learning curve: both for the teachers who have another level of technology to get their heads around, as well as the experience as a dancer.

There are the legal issues too.
There has been much discussion in the Movement Medicine and 5 Rhythms teaching world about the implications raised by teaching online. There are insurance cover requirements to consider. There is also the use of copyright material ( i.e. music ) legal requirements that have to be addressed.
As well as privacy concerns around using Zoom.

What we are introducing:

1) A Disclaimer – this as part of the registration requirements:
We now add a disclaimer: You, as a dancer, have to look after your own space and ensure that it is safe for your dance session. If an injury occurs during an online dance, neither the Collective, nor teacher are responsible. (This is surely self-evident, but needs stating.)
Agreeing to this is part of registering for the class.

The Zoom 'Meeting Registration' page:
This is very simple: name, email address and agreed to the disclaimer.
Then do the reCaptcha thingey and register.
(The info, btw, goes to the teacher who sets up the Zoom session.)
You'll then get the code for joining the Zoom session.
Please don't pass this on to others. Do let others know of the changes though.

This extra step covers insurance requirements PLUS is also to increase privacy and a prevention of Zoom meeting "bombing" or gatecrashing.

I hope that you get that there are good reasons for this.
The Steering Circle considered it best to have a clear foundation and guidelines to support us all: dancers as well as teachers.

2) Broadcasting music online
This is not something that you, as a dancer, need be concerned about. I included this so that you know what else the Collective (as well as every person doing online dance classes) has to comply with: the Performing Rights Society!
The Collective will have to get a license to cover all  teachers when they use copyright music online. This will cost us around £160!

3) Donations
I wrote in the previous email:
"A lot of us have lost incomes and have less money available. During this time of unsettling and, as the Collective teachers experiment with offering dance online, the Collective decided to cover, from our contingency fund, the amount usually given to teachers.
This allows you to give what you want.
You don't need to give to come.
However, if you do, your gesture is much appreciated. Even if your gesture is a small amount.
All are welcome.
"

That still stands! Phew!

What I have to change is my way to get around the PayPal fees (I have a strong objection to just how much is taken with each transaction, Grrr! for doing what!?)
Now, this too, has to be done "properly" — the option to donate as if you were giving to a friend seems removed by PayPal!

Although you can donate days after the class you attended, it is much easier for me if you donate as close to the class time as you can.
PLEASE include a note making it clear which class the donation is for.

4) Email frequency:
Each week's class requires a different Zoom code. (The reason is that teachers are using their own Zoom accounts.)
Therefore, the new link to register will be sent to you each week.
If the increased frequency of emails annoys you so much that you want to unsubscribe, so be it: the unsubscribe link is below.

Monday April 13th is held by Jo Hardy.
Please refer to the Totnes Dance Collective website for information rather than rely solely on Facebook. (In case you've been forwarded this message, subscribe to our email list from the home page)
The following week is likely to be someone other than Kay as she is looking to swap dates.

I apologise for the length of this email especially as some is stuff that many, if not all, of us would prefer not to be bothered with.

Now, scroll down to the purple text below for the registration link.

Thank you for reading all this! :-)
Any questions or comments? Do get in touch.

Go well.
