Virtual Networking Tips & Zooming
Welcome to a new paradigm! We are now sheltering in place and if you are like me, you might feel like Zoom has taken over your life (or at least your work life). I’m happy to say that Oregon is one of the states taking the sheltering precautions seriously and I do hope that we can get out to socialize again and be able to attend live networking events in person soon.
In the meanwhile, here are some easy tips that you can do to help keep your sanity, grow your business and not feel “zoomed out.”
- Stay connected – do a quick phone call or email to a friend, co-worker, family member just to check in to see how they are doing.
- Interact on social media – Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter.
- Monitor your time on social media – it can suck your day away. Set a timer for 15 minutes to help.
- Take time to clean your desk. Most people are at their desks much of the day. You will feel better with a clean workspace.
- Use a standing desk or stand at your desk when on a call.
- Take a break – go for a walk, stretch, go pull some weeds in the garden.
- Look for new Meetup groups or Facebook groups to network virtually
- Set up some 1:1 times with power partners or potential power partners -goal is at least one per week.
Those of you using Zoom, please keep in mind these Zoom tips and etiquette suggestions. Thanks to my techy son Alex for sharing the tip! I've also included it in a shareable graphic for your social media platforms.
Zoom Etiquette & Tips
- The mute button is your friend. Use it regularly. Others will appreciate it. Realize that every time you move a paper, play with the dog or whisper that others can hear you.
- TIP: If you are muted and just want to say something quickly, hold your space bar down while you talk. Let go when done and you will still be muted.
- Turn your video screen off during a call if you would prefer not to be seen. You can put your picture on instead or a virtual background.
- Don’t interrupt or talk over each other. Watch for the yellow box that highlights the speaker.
- Choose between Gallery View or Speaker’s View depending on the type of call you are having.
- Link Zoom to your online calendar for easy scheduling.
