Dispose Responsibly, Don't Flush It or Pour It. Trash It.
Growing up, many of us were told to pour down the drain or flush things like wipes, paper towels and grease. We now know that these types of materials don't break down in our pipes. This means that when flushed or poured down the drain, clogs can potentially occur causing sewer backups and costly plumbing bills. Instead of flushing or pouring the following items down the drain, throw them away:
- Wipes (even if they say flushable, they don't break down)
- Cleaning cloths
- Paper towels
- Feminine hygiene products
- Personal care items
- Cleaners
- Chemicals
- Paints
- Fats, oils and grease
- Medicines
To learn more about proper disposal of these items and more, visit the Defend Your Drain web page.
