Coronavirus and Worker Organizing
We know the world can be a scary place these days. COVID-19 has impacted our daily lives and the lives of so many loved ones in profound ways. As conditions intensify and more and more of us are affected, we hope that this group remains one of solidarity and support for everyone who needs it. 💙
With that being said, there have been some incredibly inspiring organizing wins ✊ and efforts over the past few weeks as frontline workers are forced to choose between paychecks and safety. A few (of many) that we'd like to highlight:

A mighty group of Amazon workers at the DCH1 warehouse in Chicago saw what was happening across the company and across the tech industry--the workers who are forced to continue working despite the rapid spread of COVID-19 often have to cover shifts even when they're sick, which compromises not only their own health, but that of their coworkers and customers as well. After standing up to their bosses and delivering a petition with hundreds of signatures from Amazon workers, this group won PTO for everyone.

Workers at both Instacart as well as Whole Foods walked off the job early this week in protest over working conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island also walked off the job, resulting in massive media attention, one organizer who was fired, and Di Blasio stepping in to investigate the unjust termination. We support these workers and encourage everyone to refrain from shopping at Whole Foods, purchasing goods on Amazon, and using Instacart if possible.
Protests at two GE facilities erupted on Monday, March 30th, as workers began applying pressure on the company to demand they start making ventilators. The growing shortage of ventilators has caught the attention of working people throughout the US, many of whom recognize their own self-interest in organizing against the shortage. The protests came shortly after a GE announcement that the company is laying off 10% of its aviation workforce--a workforce, the organizers argue, that could be employed to make ventilators. So much more is unfolding in the latest strike wave rising not only in the US, but also worldwide.
