Health providers with handmade masks can use them on lower-risk patients allowing N95s to be reserved for emergency cases.

In a time where people are struggling, a Rapid City artist's t-shirt designs are taking off.

All original design in Lakota Beadwork Iconography. The shirt itself tells a story. Each shirt is hand-printed; the design is personally created. It's my hope to share cultural knowledge in ways that aren't expected. The shirt looks as if it's only a strong, simple design but holds keys to this knowledge that only those who spend time with beadworkers are aware of. This empowers anyone who wears the shirt to be a teacher.

From the artist Focus:

"Creating the design with simplicity in mind to honor the way it was done when my great great great great grandparents did. The design tells a story itself - in that one meaning of the star quilt is that it represents the community. You'll see at the peak of every direction is a triangle that is the symbol for home. This calls upon the knowledge that there are all people involved in creation. In between the houses are the symbols for the thunders, and lighting signifies the things that strengthen us through adversity. What we as humans bond over just as much as love. Each house has a feather underneath to carry it upwards. The three-tiered triangle above the home is the symbol for earth. A nod towards that we aren't above the earth but of the earth. Leading upward to the cloud symbol. Above the clouds is the symbol for the tuswecha(dragonfly) protector of children as were all children. Tuswecha is sacred.
Wrapping around the edges of the circle are the symbols of stars. The symbol is about community."

Prices - $20 per shirt. Out of state orders, please include an additional $6 per order to help with shipping.
Proceeds support our community.
Sizes are Small to 3XL right now. If you need of a larger size, please let me know.

EMERGENCY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FUND

The Allied Arts would like to form an Emergency Financial Assistance Fund, with YOUR help.

Pursuing a career in the creative or cultural sector can be fraught with challenges. It's not uncommon for individuals emerging in their careers to live from paycheck to paycheck, making it difficult to establish any type of substantial financial safety net. Those who operate in the gig economy aren't guaranteed the comfort of a steady paycheck, which means their monthly income often fluctuates. These conditions can make it extremely hard for individuals in the sector to be adequately prepared when an emergency strikes.

Creative and cultural professionals, which includes artists of all disciplines, who have experienced a disruption to their income stream can request assistance from the Allied Arts once the fund is established. Awarded funds will be used to assist with necessary living expenses, such as housing, utilities, or groceries. The objective is to provide financial support in moments of crisis to those in the sector who are experiencing financial hardship.

This fund will be made possible through generous donor contributions to the Allied Arts.

We are starting with a $500 gift to kickstart this fund!
Contact us for more information.
THANK YOU!

STAGES ARE CLOSED THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY!

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has created a substantial disruption to earned revenue for organizations and income streams for individuals. Many performances and events have been canceled or postponed.
Please consider donating the cost of your unused tickets back to those organizations. This generous gesture would greatly help them through this difficult time.
Thank you!

BHCT Ghostlight Series

Even though all remaining productions of its 52nd Season have been postponed for at least eight weeks, Black Hills Community Theatre still feels that they must inspire, entertain, and educate the community with quality theatre. The Ghostlight Series will provide new content on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the forms of Livestreams or pre-recorded videos featuring talented BHCT artists until we can gather in groups again. The content will be posted initially on BHCT's Facebook page and will also be posted here on our website.
Enjoy!

What better way to improve your heart health during a time of quarantine, than by showing off your best dance moves!

Spring theater performances, dance recitals, and a symphony concert came to a standstill as COVID-19 prompted closures and cancellations. Though live shows can’t go on right now, local actors and dancers are using online tools to take entertainment and classes safely into living rooms across the Black Hills.

Supporting Community Projects!

"I would like to personally thank the Allied Arts Fund for their support, which allows me to create awareness pieces that, in return, support organizations in our community." Art heals, art transforms. The "Last of Me", 12x36 mixed media on canvas was auctioned at The Vagina Monologues, and the proceeds were donated to Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI) - Kristina Simmons, Ruminative Arts

With your help and the support of US Bank, we were able to provide a grant through our Share-a-Seat program so that local students could participate in a cultural dance workshop with the Young Irelanders. The students performed those dances that night on stage at the Rapid City Concert Association event.
Thank you for making these opportunities possible for the children in our community. Find out more about our Share-a-Seat program here:

Community Grants Awarded

The Allied Arts was honored to support this summer project to enrich and educate the community on the history and importance of Klezmer music, and also as a fundraiser for the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra. “We as a community must continue to promote the arts by encouraging audience participation and attendance to different events. Or for the musicians, it’s merely just a practice. We perform to watch the reaction of our audience and to feel the energy of a live performance.” ~ Jami Beck organizer

The Allied Arts celebrated the Season of Giving with Scheels!

Harmony Bridge is a project that is creating a band comprised of 26-30 Middle School youth from 5 schools in the RCAS district. These students will be professionally trained to perform specially prepared music to then
be shared with senior citizens at extended care facilities in the RC area. This is the seed that will grow into the future with more bands and seniors affected. Currently there are 5 school band teachers and one college music professor committed to the success of this program. The Allied Arts is proud to support this project! If you would like to find out how you too can help please contact us. Thank you!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Allied Arts Receive 2020 Best of Rapid City Award
Rapid City, S.D. 1/15/2020 – The Allied Arts, a united funding agency for the arts in Rapid City and the Black Hills, has been selected for the 2020 Best of Rapid City Award in the Arts Organizations & Information category.

Each year, the Rapid City Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Rapid City area a great place to live, work, and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2020 Rapid City Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Rapid City Award Program and data provided by third parties.

The achievements and accomplishments of local businesses throughout the Rapid City area. Recognition is given to those companies that have shown the ability to use their best practices and implemented programs to generate competitive advantages and long-term value.

The Rapid City Award Program was established to recognize the best of local businesses in our community. Our organization works exclusively with local business owners, trade groups, professional associations, and other business advertising and marketing groups. Our mission is to recognize the small business community's contributions to the U.S. economy.

"Like so many nonprofits, we work tirelessly behind the scenes to further our mission. We do the work because we want to make a difference. To help others and to empower people. Being recognized for this work is such an unexpected honor. Thank you to our Rapid City community for your support of the Allied Arts!" ~ GiGi Lage, Executive Director

It was an honor to recognize Black Hills EnergyMutch UseraKyle Lambert, and Becky Ann Dodge Dingus at Helpline Center's 2019 Spirit of Volunteerism Award luncheon. Thank you for all you do to keep the lights on and the wheels in motion for us and many other nonprofits in our community!
