Each moment is a chance for us to make peace with the world.
Thich Nhat Hanh

"While here in prison in this environment of constant noise, chaos, and negativity, I’ve Iearned to gain peace within myself (mentally, emotionally, and spiritually) through my personal dedication to the practice and study of both yoga and Buddhist practice.

I have learned to quiet the noise within no matter how loud it is around me while still being consciously aware of my surroundings.

This has aided me in my understanding of not just how to live a peaceful and humble life but also how to become a better person in the process."

- BP3 Participant at Salinas Valley State Prison

In many ways it has never felt more challenging to find peace than now, within the chaos of the current global pandemic known as COVID-19. This is a good time to take refuge in our mindfulness practice and to cultivate wisdom and compassion.

While there are certain things we might be able to control: following best practices regarding washing our hands, staying at home if we can, keeping a safe distance of six feet from others when we are outside the home, wearing a mask if we have one, and following other safety measures. There are also a great many things outside of our control right now. We have an opportunity to really put into practice what we so often teach inside the prisons: how to remain calm and aware in the midst of chaos; how to use mindfulness practices to navigate difficult situations; and how to find peace in the present moment.

Although our programs in California's prisons and jails have been temporarily suspended, our dedication to serving the people inside is unwavering. We have been working tirelessly to support the individuals we work with in the prison system through advocacy, mail correspondences, and developing new ways to bring meditation and mindfulness practices inside prisons.

This global crisis is resulting in innovation, and we are doing our best to answer the call.

Thank you to everyone who has supported BP3 this year. Please know that your financial and energetic support is helping carry us through this unprecedented time. We will continue to keep you informed as the situation evolves inside the prison system and update you with any new opportunities to support the folks in blue.

With deep thanks and respect,

BP3

Seeking Board Treasurer
Our current Board Treasurer, Lori Divine, will be stepping down soon after nearly seven years of service to BP3. We want to thank Lori for all of the hard work and compassionate care she has offered BP3 over the years. We deeply appreciate your selfless sacrifices, Lori! We offer you deep bows of gratitude and appreciation.

We are seeking someone to fill this important position as soon as possible. They will sit on the Board, manage BP3’s annual budget of approximately $110k, administer fiscal matters (including state grants and corporate filings), allocate funds, oversee our bookkeeper, and ensure development and board review of financial policies and procedures. This position requires a commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per month.

This is an excellent opportunity to serve our mission of bringing the teachings of the Buddha into California’s state prisons and local jails.

$9,000 available in matching funds!
A very generous private benefactor is matching the first $15,00 dollars of donations we receive this year.

While meditation programs inside prisons are temporarily suspended donations will now go towards mailing meditation supplies and correspondences to group participants, filling our emergency fund for returning citizens, and creating accessible Buddhist and meditation content to be widely distributed through the prison system.

Please contribute and help us secure the matching funds and continue to meet the needs of our group participants.
Donate
Your continued generosity allows for more consistent support for our group participants inside California prisons.

Because you give, we are able to serve.
