La Chablisienne
Situated approximately halfway between Paris and Beaune, the Chablis appellation totals over 20,000 acres of vineyards grown in areas surrounding 20 different villages. La Chablisienne accounts for about 25% of this vineyard acreage, and is the only producer to make wine from each of these 20 villages.

Originally founded in 1923, this cooperative winery produces an extensive and renowned line-up of Chablis wines which are widely exported to nearly every major wine market.

La Chablisienne is not just famous for the important volumes of wine it produces, but also for continuing to set new benchmarks for quality and style. Emphasizing the importance of terroir by producing wines 'climat by climat' (carrying out fermentations in small lots, plot by plot), La Chablisienne carries out its production in a way that is more typical of much smaller artisan producers.

E. Guigal
Domaine E. Guigal is one of France’s iconic wine producers with one of the world’s most sought after and collectible line-ups of wines.

In 1946, the Guigal estate was founded by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis – the heart of the Côte Rôtie – in one of the greatest Syrah terroirs. With a winemaking history dating back more than 2,400 years, these slopes offered equal measures of extreme winemaking and farming challenges, juxtaposed against the gift of deep, dark, complex and age-worthy nectars born from these impossibly steep “roasted slopes”. Through the acquisition of several neighbouring properties, the Guigal range today includes wines grown across the most celebrated villages of both the northern and southern Rhône Valley, including Saint-Joseph, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Condrieu, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Tavel.

Wines produced under the Guigal label are all vinified at the historic Château d’Ampuis, an ancient “fotress” originally built in the 12th century and later expanded and renovated in the 16th century. Today, the Guigal family takes immense joy in building on the family legacy of sharing the emotions and expressions of the great wines coaxed from these rich, privileged terroirs. From the humble and delicious Côtes du Rhône, through the rare, single-vineyard Côte Rôtie bottlings, the entire range reflects the Guigal family’s tremendous pride in and dedication to showcasing the viticultural potential of this ancient winemaking region.

"From a popular co-operative winery making leaner, classic Chablis, the 2015 shows a well integrated nose of yellow fruit, lemon, herbs and mineral. It is a bit riper and smoother in this hot vintage, with some alcohol warmth yet fine acidity remains and there is a mineral streak on the finish. Quite elegant and cohesive with very good to excellent length. Drink now. Score: 90 Pts." - David Lawrason, winealign.com. (Last tasted August 2019).

"The quality of this cuvée has soared over the past decade, and the 2018 Côtes du Rhône Blanc is another terrific vintage. Tasting like a mini Condrieu with its floral, orange blossom, and honeysuckle aromas and flavors, it's medium-bodied, fresh, and lively on the palate, with an attractive mix of richness and freshness. Drink it over the coming year or two. Score: 90 Pts." - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com, Dec. 12, 2019.
What foods pair with Chablis? Well, lucky for us, this region produces some of the most food-friendly wines in the world. From seafood, to shellfish, to chicken, Chablis can be paired with any number of dishes.

Pan seared scallops are decadent and yet so easy to make even as a quick weeknight dinner. With its mineral and citrus aromas, a glass of Chablis would accompany the delicate flavours of this seafood dish nicely.

Tartiflette is a mouth-watering potato gratin dish from Savoie, the mountainous area of Rhône-Alpes. Made with au gratin potatoes and reblochon cheese, the Rhône-Alpes-style tartiflette has become part of traditional French gastronomy.

With its floral, orange blossom, and honeysuckle aromas, the 2018 Côte du Rhône Blanc from E. Guigal complements the rich, creamy flavours of the Tartiflette perfectly.
