50-Year Reunion - COVID-19

Hi, <<First Name>>...

We probably didn't see this just a month ago, but here we are, confronting the disruption and uncertainty that the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic has brought to our country.

As the days earilier in March were progressing, I was working to finalize plans and sign commitments for a venue and caterers for our 50-year reunion, and prepare invitations to mail out to over 750 of our classmates. And what seemed then like a problem elsewhere and something that our government would be handle when it eventually arrived here, turned out to be filled with much more uncertainty as the virus spread exponentially - both with the potential human toll and the impact on our lives in being able to plan with any degree of confidence.

Most of us are either following stay at home/shelter in place orders, telecommuting, or working in essential services. But as a result, most of us are unable to state with any confidence what we'll be doing or what our lives will be like six months from now.

However, we're not throwing in the towel. I still encourage you to keep the weekend of September 18-20 penciled in on your calendar, and to the extent you can make travel plans without financial penalty, please consider doing so. We'll rely on public health officials to determine if and when it is safe to gather for a reunion... remember, we are members of the "vulnerable and elderly" group that requires more precautions, even if our brains try to convince us otherwise. If necessary, we will delay until later in the year, or postpone our celebration until next year.

In the meantime, we'll be taking advantage of the fact that many people are stuck at home, and we'll attempt to call alumni in the contact database to verify phone number, mailing address, and email address to ensure we reach as many people with news about the reunion as possible before incurring the expense of mailed invitations.

Stay tuned for future updates this month as we plow through the database!
