Dear Calvary Family,

Our staff have been planning and preparing for what we expect to be a meaningful Holy Week journey with you over the coming week. While we are disappointed not to gather with you face to face, especially during this sacred time, we are genuinely excited about how plans are coming together, and we are truly looking forward to sharing these unique worship experiences with you.

For Palm Sunday, we will be worshipping with some of our sister churches around the Waco community: Dayspring, Lake Shore, Seventh and James, and UBC. Palm Sunday worship will begin on Facebook Live at 11 AM on Sunday. You will notice various traditions and voices from each faith community woven together throughout the service. The video can be found at https://www.facebook.com/wacofabfive/, and we will share it from the Calvary Facebook page when it goes live, too. Also, lyrics to the songs we will be singing on Sunday can be found here.

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will start on Calvary’s Facebook Live at 7 PM next Thursday and Friday evenings. You’ll recognize lots of familiar Calvary faces leading musical offerings, Scripture readings, candle lightings, and more. Follow along at https://www.facebook.com/CalvaryBaptistWaco/.

Easter Sunday worship will begin with a special surprise via Facebook Live on Sunday morning at 10:45 AM!

How to Prepare for Holy Week
  • We are encouraging children to make palm branches for Palm Sunday to wave throughout the worship service! They may want to find branches or leaves outside, or they could make palm branches out of construction paper. Be creative and resourceful :) Post pictures/videos on social media for the rest of us to see, too!
  • Even as we are apart, we will be practicing communion together on Maundy Thursday. Please use whatever kinds of food/drink in your house that you can find to symbolize the body and blood of Christ as we participate in this sacred act.
  • On Friday, you will need a candle and a match/candle lighter for the Good Friday service.
  • We know that the flower-filled Easter cross at Calvary is a favorite tradition for all of us. Since we won’t be together to fill the cross with flowers this year, we encourage you to make a cross to put outside your home on Easter morning to share the good news of the resurrection with everyone passing by! You may want to build a cross, draw a cross with sidewalk chalk, make a sign to put in the window, etc. We would love to see you pictures on social media, too!
Our hope is to honor some of our special Calvary traditions that normally guide us through this season while also exploring new ways in which we can experience Holy Week together, even as we are apart.

I want to say a special thank you to all of our staff for your hard work making these unique experiences possible in the midst of a stressful time of life. Our staff continue to go above and beyond in their love and care for the Calvary family in this season. Also, HUGE thanks to Jim Heston for his technical support in helping us to experience this unique Holy Week journey together.

With great love,
Mary Alice
