Resent to reflect amended Chang School drop date of April 9, 2020 and new Canadian dial-in number for Hangouts Meet.

Hello Advising Network,

I hope you're doing well in our new environment. Who knew so much of life could be lived online? So much has changed since the last newsletter, I thought I'd share some updates and resources.

RO Updates

Undergraduate Course Grading Update
For Winter 2020 courses only, students can choose to replace final undergraduate course grades with a credit (CRD) or no credit (NCR) grade. For important details, such as how will these grades affect scholarships, see the New Grade Options: CRD and NCR FAQs.

Course Deadline Extension
Deadlines for official grade submission and course drop dates have been extended.

For students: The deadline for dropping Winter 2020 undergraduate and graduate courses in good academic standing has been extended from March 27, 2020 to April 9, 2020 (the last day of classes). The deadline to drop Chang School courses is Friday, April 9, 2020.

For faculty and instructors: The deadline for official grades submission has been extended to May 11, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. for most programs.

April Final Exams
The exam website has been updated. The scheduled now refers students to D2L or their instructor, or "online" if the instructor has informed us the exam will be held online at the regularly scheduled time. Details on how to set up technology for online exams or take a practice D2L quiz (all about cats!) have also been added. A communication was sent to all students on April 3 to let them know of these changes and resources.

Resources from our Advisors
One of our TRSM advisors, Dan Cantiller, found this great document on advising in times of disruption, put togther by Ohio State University.

Bianca Marryshow and Steven Nguyen from Student Financial Assistance put together these great tips on working from home.

Thank you for sharing!

Continuity of Teaching, Learning... and Advising
The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching has created some excellent resources to shift online. Advisors can use many of the teaching tools listed in the Continuity of Teaching Guide, such as setting up a time to talk, video call, or text with a student on Google Hangouts, or a lunch date with colleagues through video conferencing on Zoom. It's easy to use Google calendars to create an appointment, and instead of adding a location, add conferencing for Hangouts, or paste a Zoom link into the notes.

Access to Technology
As you know, not all students and staff have reliable access to a computer, internet, camera and microphone.

Conference & Advising Certificate
I guess if the Olympics are being postponed, I should probably revisit our advising conference -- or at least scale it down and take it online!  For now, keep May 26th saved for a virtual visit. Keep an eye out for newsletter updates and the HR Learning Events Calendar for online offerings in May and beyond.
Well, that wasn't the smooth end of semester wrap-up I'd wished for, but it has been inspiring to see how quickly we adapted and our amazing efforts to support our students in finishing up their semester.

Ultimately we have become a better institution, with more flexible assessments, online services, and for me, an even greater appreciation for my colleagues.

I wish you the best for whatever the next semester will bring.

Take care,
Michelle
