coping with chronic stress
If you're feeling "off," dear Friend, you're not alone.

One friend, a voracious reader, hasn't been able to stay focused on a book.

Others - whether working remotely, juggling family demands, and/or trying to follow distancing recommendations and stay at home - report feeling exhausted.

We're each trying to find our new normal, when little about life right now feels normal. This COVID-19 pandemic has us spending mental energy and making decisions about things that once were automatic. We're having to think more intentionally about work, food, family, friends, safety - and how it all intersects.

For many, the stress is acute - the loss of a job, financial hardships, the death of a loved one. But for most everyone, there's also an undercurrent of chronic stress showing up as anger, grief, exhaustion. It too can cause disrupted sleep and disordered eating.

I noticed that undercurrent in me late last week, when I couldn't maintain my focus, when I was logging more sleep than normal and still felt exhausted, and when I wanted to snap at my family.

Low-level chronic stress, someone said, and immediately how I felt had a name. So I of course decided to do a little research into chronic stress - what it is, and how it can be avoided, mitigated, and relieved. It took a bit longer to research and write, because of my lack of focus, but if you find yourself able to focus, you can read my latest article here.

So what have you been experiencing the past few days? If you'd like to send me a note about what life has been like for you lately and how you're doing, please hit reply. I'd love to hear from you.

With grace and space for a healthier you,
Amy
