This coming Sunday we invite you to participate in our Service of Holy Communion as you listen to the podcast of our worship service. Prepare for yourself and your family some drink and bread that will represent the body and blood of our Savior. Partake of these elements as we consecrate them, eat them, and drink them. Pray with us as we give thanks for the gift that is given to us in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During our traditional Palm Sunday service, we bless palm leaves, symbols of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and distribute them to our congregation. Our parishioners often take these leaves home to display during Holy Week, reminding them of the special time leading up to Easter and the resurrection of our Lord. Some even fold their leaves into the shape of a cross, and pin their palm crosses to mirrors or pictures as a sign of the Easter to come.
During this time of pandemic, we have an at-home alternative. We will ask you to go outside before Sunday morning and pick a particularly nice leaf from a tree in your yard. An evergreen, perhaps: hemlock, pine, cedar. It doesn't have to be big, just enough for you to have with you when you listen to our worship podcast on Sunday morning (or whenever you can). We'll bless our leaves together in worship, and you can hang your branch in your home, anticipating an Easter that will still come on April 12.
Hosanna!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
