Important Announcements:

1. Michigan Physiological Society plans virtual conference and collecting abstracts to publish
2. Extending expiring memberships update
3. Physiology Jobs Board

Due to COVID-19 the 7th annual Michigan Physiological Society (MPS) conference was cancelled at Ferris State University. In light of the circumstances, the Executive Committee recently decided to continue with publishing a 2020 program. Thus, MPS is opening a call for abstracts to highlight the work of our members.  Abstracts can be re-used, such as past Experimental Biology submissions. There is no charge to submit an abstract. Please visit: https://apsmichigan.org/abstract-submission/
Abstract collection will close Friday, May 29th.

Virtual Conference Poll:
In the abstract submission form, please indicate your preference:

1. Printed abstract only
2. Narrated poster presentation
3. 10-min slideshow presentation

MPS would to like to host a virtual physiology conference depending how many individuals are interested in participating. Tentatively, the video conference would held in June 25 or 26th (the date of the originally planned conference) with more details to follow such as a speaker's time slot schedule. MPS is venturing into new territory. Please feel free to share feedback at physiology@apsmichigan.org

Membership Update:

Extending Membership:

The MPS Executive Committee has voted to extend membership to those who had expiring memberships in 2020 for one year. The rationale for this decision is that one of the primary benefits of MPS membership is discounted registration rates for the annual conference. The updates in our database should occur within the next month. Currently, 48% of the MPS members have a membership that will expire in 2020. In the chart above, in a typical year MPS has on average 59 new members and/or membership renewals. This year, MPS has had only 3 membership transactions. If you support MPS, please consider signing up as a member or extending your membership. Members can login to check the status of their membership at: https://apsmichigan.org/membership/

New MPS Jobs Board:

In the past year MPS has improved our website to include a jobs board. Feel free to post physiology-related job postings on the MPS website, free of charge. Already, MPS has received a few out-of-state submissions. If you want to post a job opportunity please email physiology@apsmichigan.org or simply submit a job at the following link:

Thank you and Stay Safe

Lastly MPS wishes everyone good health. Due to COVID-19, MPS is adapting to the situation and hopes everyone and their families will remain safe. We are trying to engagement membership in a meaningful way while respecting the stay-at-home orders.
