Right now in India, the whole population has been forced into lockdown without proper preparation. If people go too far, they are beaten by police with bamboo cane. People who rely on daily wages seldom have any savings, and this shut down is pushing them into tremendous hardship with starvation on the horizon. Although the government is handing out food, it takes time to reach remote places and so far is inadequate. We would like to support at least the following two groups who are doing incredible work in India. Help them to help poor people stay alive until the CORONA VIRUS pandemic is over.

Created by Buddhist nuns from Australia, the RED KANGAROO IN INDIA and the BODHICITTA FOUNDATION, educate children and support communities. Right now they are seeking to get food/goods out to families to help them make it through the lockdown.  Jobless, unable to venture outside and without the means to purchase food, the families will confront a disastrous situation within days.
The organisation "Red Kangaroo in India" was created by Bhiksuni Tenzin Yeshe and Bhiksuni Tenzin Dao and works in the rural village areas of Sarnath, outside of Varanasi since 2013. They provide funding for the education of nearly 200 village children. They actively promote gender equality and the advancement of girls so they can take an active role in society. Where possible, they offer additional nutritional drinks, health care and emergency support to those families who are in serious need.

"We sincerely request your kind help so that we can deliver emergency food packages to our families, including dry goods such as rice, dal, atta, sugar, tea and spices, oil, as well as soap and other hygiene materials.  We estimate that each emergency package will cost $65 AUD."

BODHICITTA FOUNDATION

Bodhicitta Foundation was created by Australian nun Ayya Yeshe and has worked for a decade empowering women and children in the slums of central India. They work with ex-untouchable Indian Buddhists, have a girls home, womens job training centre, sponsor 55 children for school and offer education to 200 more in their after school study Centres. They make 6000 meals per year for undernourished children and help 2000 people per year.
