To all our martial arts friends, families and followers, we wish you all health and positivity through these unprecedented times. Keep moving (at home) and supporting each other and your schools. We need everyone to remain viable, so they can all bounce back bigger and better once the clouds lift.

We're all in this together - help us to help you

Well it goes without saying that these are tough and confusing times of uncertainty for us all. For the first time in our lifetimes we have had our freedoms taken away from us in a quest to get this wicked COVID-19 under control.

Many of you are sports and fitness enthusiasts, experiencing the inconvenience caused by the closure of your gyms, cancellation of classes and restrictions of where, when and with whom you can exercise.

Obviously we have also been affected by inability to run group classes, closure of schools we provide services to, and having to redesign our delivery approach.

Whilst we are all affected financially, and some of you may have had work cut back or lost jobs altogether, also spare a thought for owners of these gyms, schools and personal trainers who have effectively had there livelihood obliterated.

Not all of you qualify for the government's stimulus packages, I know we don't, so we have come up with some support programs to assist our 3 main demographics of business owners, being Gym Owners, Personal Trainers and Martial Arts school owners.

We hope some of you can make use of, and take advantage, of our support packages.
It helps you and of course it helps us, which is how life should be.

CHECKLIST FOR THOSE OF YOU RUNNING VIDEO CLASSES

We see that many of you are being innovative and running classes and workouts online for your members, which is wonderful to see you trying to maintain engagement and interest levels, and in many cases it maybe motivated by maintaining cashflow.

Here's a few things you may want to consider before zooming into online delivery, all pun intended.

Consider the following:
  • Updating the wording of your disclaimer, liability forms to include online learning
  • Privacy Policies, particularly if involving minors online
  • Your insurance coverage if you are filming away from your gym
  • Your fee policies if your are still charging full fees but providing a reduced / drastically modified service
  •  Are you charging your own members for something that everyone else can see for free ?
  • The technology you use , programs, connectivity, sound and picture quality
  •  Your appearance, tone, language and dress appropriateness
  •  Maintaining standards, integrity and transparency if you are incorporating gradings online
  •  Participation or cyber attendance requirements
  • Having a structured program rather than making it up as you go along
  • Streamlining different sessions for different levels, ages
  • Are they being taught anything technical or just exercising along with you
  •  Is it 'all about you' instead of 'all about them' ?
  • If you are running Fitness sessions, are you a qualified Fitness Instructor (may have insurance implications)
  •  Are you using equipment students wont have at home
  • If you are running private sessions for minors, what safety guards have you got in place for you and them

Just a few things to think about, as we appreciate a lot of people jumped in very quickly because everyone else was doing it, without a lot of time to sit down and plan or structure, so as not to lose contact with students. Also the uncertainty of knowing how long this was going to last.

Otherwise, keep up the good work and hopefully we can all be back ion the full swing of things before we know it.
