Dear Friends of The Masque

We trust that you and your families are safe and healthy at this trying time in our world history. If you click here or on our newsletter banner above, it will take you to the latest recommendations with regards to masks by the Western Cape Department of Health.

We have some glorious shows waiting in the wings for when our world is safe and we can once again invite patrons into our foyer. You are our community, and at this time we’re looking at how we can give a little back. To that end, we have two announcements:

Like to watch theatre?

For those you like to watch theatre, we’re offering free membership to our Theatre Club (usually R99 a month) until the end of December -  investing in our belief that the doors will indeed reopen this year!
Theatre Club offers two for one on member -society shows, and 20% off visiting productions at the Masque Theatre

Interested to pop-in-on the making of theatre?

We announce: Bertie’s Ghost Lights, a weekly programme of passion-induced live get togethers, focusing on that very special element Theatre offers all: the power of the live moment. We will take this step by step together. If you would be interested in joining Zoom-based theatre get togethers, please join us! (And we will automatically add you to the free Theatre Club membership, so you don’t need to click twice ;)

Next week’s schedule will include an online play reading, of the dark comedy “Sisters before Misters” by our very own Wayne Ronné, drop in and learn with the upcoming musical Sister Act dance rehearsal - yes let’s learn those moves together! - and a theatre-focused social quiz. There will even be a practise Zoom session for first time users.

Are you a public performer and keen to perform during #lockdown? Check out the Theatre Plug in Platform, it’s looking exciting!
Ghostlights shine on stages across the world, taken by many to signify that the lights will come back on again, and the doors will reopen. For the Masque Theatre, we are very aware that our true Ghostlights are our people. The building itself was donated by Bertie Stern, and it is the (unpaid!) members' passion that has kept the Masque Theatre a centre for community and theatre for over 60 years - even when the theatre itself burnt to the ground in 1997. The Gong inviting you to take your seats will sound again.

Wishing you a great Sunday and #lockdown week ahead!

With best wishes,
The Masque Theatre Team
