I leave knowing consumption of prostitution in Israel is on the decline and the number of women with a real chance at rehabilitation will increase. As I noted at last summer’s memorial event:
“To whomever mistakenly claims prostitution is the world’s oldest profession in the world, we reply, ‘Not on our watch!’
Whoever says it is merely natural when night after night, twenty men line
up, one after the other, to buy the body of one woman, we say, ‘Not on our
streets, not on our watch!’
Whoever tells us of all the happiness sought and supplied, we remember
those who tragically died in pursuit of such ‘pleasure’.”
The journey to enshrine Nordic Model law in Israel has been long and onerous, and there are still many challenges on the horizon. It is now up to us to ensure future generations will not be coerced into prostitution. Efforts must continue to educate tomorrow’s consumers of prostitution and rehabilitate 14,000 women and men trapped in Israel’s insidious sex industry. With great regard for their capacities and dedication, we are extremely fortunate to now bestow the leadership of TFHT and its endeavors upon Or Abu and Ayelet Dayan.
