Artist's Insider Circle

Greetings and salutations. I'm just checking in to share some positivity and to invite you to tap into your inner artist. First, let's share the positivity! I've been painting regularly and experimenting with my live painting sessions. I've been able to share my passion for paint, my love of process, and my peculiar philosophy about art. It's been really a joy to tap back into my inner art teacher. I used to teach figure drawing when I was working for UCF, as well as 2D and 3D design classes. I enjoyed the adult painting classes I did too because I could go so much deeper on a topic. teaching makes my heart happy-- and we all know there is no heart without ART, so teaching art is the ultimate expression of my happy place. I'll continue to do these classes through April. Tune in next Tuesday live on Facebook or with this video link 6pm PT/9pmET. Here's the current state of the painting I'll be working on- The Arrangement.

Now, to the invitation! These are some surreal weeks--and that's coming from a rainbow-haired, face-painting, learning scientist, who used to weight lift and do musical theater! It's a weird time. As humans, we need to create things, to explore, to dream, to invent. Art is in every one of us and part of my goal is to help remind you of that fact. You are an artist. It doesn't matter if you've never made something that you think looks like "art." What matters right now is the opportunity. You probably have some feels about this whole experience. How about taking ten minutes to draw it out? You can throw it away after, but give yourself permission to explore. That's the invitation- give yourself permission to explore and put things down on paper.

I urge you all to have compassion for yourself and for others right now. Stress makes monsters out of us. Making art is a great way to combat stress and to produce happy brain chemicals. Do something good for your brain and go doodle on some scrap paper, scribble on a sketchpad, or draw on a new canvas. See these challenges as opportunities. Happy art-making!

In love and paint,
Kristin

P.S. I'm listening to the audiobook of David and Goliath right now and it's AMAZING! Here's a link to a TED talk about the book by the author.
P.S.S. If you are stuck at home and need some new color in your life, here's a link to my art shop! You can find prints, cutting boards, pillow, and phone cases all with my art on them!
