Dear McAlpine family,
 

Everyone should have heard from your teacher(s) about the new curricululm beginning tomorrow, April 6, 2020. This plan is designed to continue the learning students were working on prior to March 16. If you have not heard from your teacher(s), please reach out to her or him or to Mrs. Bentley or Mrs. Modine.

This week will have three learning days, Monday - Wednesday, and then Spring Break will begin for students! (April 9th is a teacher workday and April 10th is a holiday. Spring Break is April 13th - 17th).

*Parents of 5th graders going to South Charlotte Middle School  next year - please read the details below regarding a course selection for next year that is due THIS WEEK. There is contact information in the links if you have any questions.

Family Learning Plan Suggestions

  • Review the Continuity of Learning plan each Sunday evening to create a work plan for the upcoming week.
  • Complete assignments, participate in live class opportunities, view instructional videos, etc., keeping up with daily lessons and activities.
  • Ask questions and seek the help of your teacher if you do not understand or need extra help.

March 25th the registration window will open for all students select their course requests for the 2020-2021 year. The window will close on April 10th. During this time, parents and students must log in to PowerSchool and select course requests for next year. Please review all of the documents on our registration website which can be found on the school webpage under the left hand tab labeled “Registration Process for 2020-2021 Academic Year”. There is a virtual Parent Night PowerPoint as well as additional documents. These documents will help aid in the decision of course selections and how to use PowerSchool to put in course requests. All requests need to be entered into PowerSchool by April 7th

In addition, all students and parents should register to use the Remind App for the “Class of 2027 SCMS Counselor” so that they can receive registration updates and information on counselor support. Please click here for additional information.

Hello McAlpine families,

Click here for a GoogleDoc containing links to various resources approved by CMS for any who may be in need of them during this time of uncertainty. It includes assistance with food distribution, medical/dental, shelter, language assistance, clothing and furniture, WiFi, emergency finances as eligible, and other community resources. Please share this with any who may benefit. If there are any other questions or concerns to help with, even if it’s just a reassuring phone call with a kiddo, feel free to reach out to Mr. Carrico or Mrs Nix. McAlpine Elementary School is hosting Camp Invention again this summer from June 22-25! Camp Invention is a nonprofit summer STEM program led by educators from McAlpine Elementary and gives students the opportunity to become innovators through teamwork and immersive, hands-on creative problem solving. 
Girl Scout Summer Camp Info Session
Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun! Come join us and learn about all that our camp programs have to offer you and your girl!
