National 
China's national college entrance exam postponed by a month

China's national college entrance exam, also known as Gaokao, will be postponed by one month to July 7 and 8 due to the COVID-19, the Ministry of Education (MoE) said on 31 March. Hubei and Beijing can put forward their proposals on the exam dates for their regions and publish the schedule after consulting and gaining approval from the MoE. Around 10.71 million students in China are expected to sit for this year's exam.
 

China has sent 9 chartered planes since March to bring back 1,457 of its nationals

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said there are around 1.4 million Chinese students remaining in foreign countries. Since March 2020, China has sent 9 chartered planes to bring back 1,457 Chinese nationals including students, from Iran, Italy and other countries hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 

China to allocate 500,000 'health kits' to overseas students

The Chinese Foreign Ministry is allocating 500,000 "health kits" to countries hosting overseas Chinese students, including over 11 million face masks, 500,000 epidemic prevention materials and guidelines, said Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu at a press conference on 2 April. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has also coordinated with airlines to prioritize the delivery of the "health kits".
 

MoE: 36 Chinese students studying overseas have been confirmed to have COVID-19, 11 have recovered (CHN)

According to Chinese Vice-Minister for Education Tian Xuejun, as of 31 March, there are 36 Chinese students overseas that have contracted COVID-19, out of which 11 have recovered and been released from the hospital.
 

MoE: students are asked to wear masks in classroom for epidemic prevention

Students will need to wear protective masks in the classroom as schools start to reopen, said MoE official at a press conference on 31 March. He added that it may be exempted in outdoor playgrounds and other in low-risk regions. The MoE has required all schools to formulate detailed emergency plans.

Beijing likely to remain in a state of COVID-19 prevention and control for a long time: official

According to spokesperson of the Beijing Municipal Government, it is impossible for Beijing, an international communication centre, to completely end the pandemic in a short time. Beijing is likely to remain in a state of coronavirus prevention and control for a long time. As of 4 April, Beijing had reported 170 imported cases of coronavirus, and 416 local infections.
 

Beijing will prepare for formal online education for primary and secondary schools (CHN)

According to the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, all textbooks for the spring semester will be distributed to primary and secondary school students by 13 April and formal online teaching will commence afterwards. Before 13 April, online education for students was mainly on epidemic control and prevention, after 13 April, the focus of studies will move towards formal studies.
 

Gansu, Liaoning, Zhejiang and Shandong announce school commencement plan

Four more provinces have announced specific commencement plans for schools and higher education institutions.
Gansu: Graduating classes in high school and secondary vocational school will commence on 9 April; Other grades from high school and primary school will prepare to commence on 13 April; Graduating classes from higher education institutions can arrange to return to campus on 13 April and prepare for commencement on 20 April; kindergartens and special schools will open after the pandemic is over.
Liaoning: Year 12s will commence on 15 April, Year 9s will commence afterwards based on decision made by provincial government.
Zhejiang: Year 9s and Year 12s will commence on 13 April, other grades from high school and year 4-6 will commence after 20 April; Year 1-3 will commence after 26 April; Kindergartens will open after 6 May based on the situation; higher education institutions can prepare to commence in late April.
Shandong: graduating classes from senior high school and secondary vocational schools will commence on 15 April; Year 9s will prepare to commence a week later based on decision of the provincial governments; other grades from high school, primary schools as well as kindergartens, special schools and higher education institution will be notified later based on the situation of the pandemic.
 

Liaoning spends 7 million RMB to support higher education students take classes online (CHN)

Liaoning based higher education institutions have begun teaching online since 2 March. Institutions have spent a total of 7 million RMB (1.4 million AUD) to support students for participating in online studies. Around 20,000 students were given subsidy for buying equipment, getting internet data or access to internet.

hanghai launch online job fair with 50,000 employment opportunities

Shanghai’s education and human resources authorities launched an online job fair (https://applyoffer.com/)on 30 March for graduates of universities in Shanghai this year. The job fair offered 50,000 employment opportunities from 3,062 employers from 25 cities. The platform will run year-round to serve students.

Tsinghua University establishes Vanke School of Public Health

Tsinghua University and China Vanke Co., LTD signed a cooperation agreement on 2 April to establish the Vanke School of Public Health, which will boost talent training, scientific research and further enhance China's capabilities in public health management.In the next five to ten years, the School will provide support to China's epidemic control, vaccine development and decisive think tanks related to major public health policy-making.
