Thinking Ahead to the Fall

What are some items to consider when prepping your chapter house for the return of your members this fall?

It remains to be seen what the conditions will be this fall when the students and your members return to school.  If the virus has been effectively eradicated, then your operations shouldn’t be changing much if at all.  However, if there remains the threat of the virus re-emerging, as is likely, then there are some elements that would need to be addressed, including the following:
  • Handwashing will continue to be imperative, so your facility needs to provide ample places to offer this preventative tool.
  • Increase your cleaning routines and have a means to do a deep clean if a member becomes ill.
  • Consider what you would do to set up a quarantine area for a member who becomes ill; experts say a private with access to a private bathroom is sufficient.
  • Review your food service and reevaluate the salad bar type arrangements for food service when many different people use the same utensils.
  • Special emphasis must be made as the landlord to encourage your resident members to declare that they are feeling ill and that the chapter house will be made ready to help them become well.

Caring for Our Mental Health

Last week, we heard from Will Frankenberger on recommendations for how we can best tend to our members' and volunteers' mental health during these chaotic times, as well as how we can do so during normal times. Watch it here if you missed it, and here is a link to Will's slides if you want to review.

Mental Health Resources

Many of our clients and mental health professionals already have tremendous mental health resources and are willing to share during these troubling days for all of us - check out the resources below: Send your additional suggestions to Sara Sterley, Director of Risk Management Education, and we will add them to our COVID-19 response page at mjsorority.com.

Financial Resources

During Will's webinar, he recommended several financial-related resources, as that is a major source of stress for many of us in these uncertain times:

We Aren't Designed For This

There are so many reasons WHY this crisis is hard on us. The good news is there are ways to support our brains to function beyond distraction. (Even Tiger King can only bring us so far out of our quarantine stress...)

Invite your teams and make it a team building event. Bring your family and use it as a conversation starter. Show up by yourself and gather some valuable information. We're in this together and we can't wait to see you there.
