Updated library closure information

Spokane County Library District has closed all library locations to the public. These closures will remain in effect until further notice, following Governor Inslee’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ emergency order to help mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Online Spring Reading Challenge: Let’s keep reading!

We’ve launched our Spring Reading Challenge for all ages—kids, teens, and adults, too! Using our online tracker, Beanstack, you can earn badges for every half-hour you spend reading. You can also earn badges for doing stay-home, stay-healthy activities.

Virtual Book Club: Funny, You Don’t Look Autistic

We’re hosting our first online book club featuring the Big Library Read from OverDrive: Funny, You Don’t Look Autistic: A Comedian’s Guide to Life on the Spectrum, by Michael McCreary. Video chat with other readers to discuss this hilarious and one-of-a-kind memoir. Registration is required for this event.

Picture book for kids & parents helps explain the coronavirus

If your kids have had a lot of questions or worries about COVID-19 and you’ve been struggling to find reassuring, age-appropriate resources, look no further. Adam Wallace, a graduate student in public health who is also stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, has shared a digital version of his picture book The Day My Kids Stayed Home: Explaining COVID-19 and the Corona Virus to Kids, for free.

KSPS’s new virtual storytime series

Our partner KSPS PBS is offering a collection of pre-kindergarten through grade 4 read-aloud stories from local educators, librarians, and community members. You can watch and listen to these great stories with your little ones and try some of the fun reading activities. Twice each month, KSPS will host a live virtual storytime for preschoolers and their caregivers.
