From the Chair

As I write this, the AE campus is as close to empty as we will ever see it - a necessary precaution against the threat of COVID-19.

It is my sincerest hope that you, your family, and your community are safely enduring this crisis.

I am proud of the way the AE faculty, staff, and students quickly adapted to this new normal - adopting new online formats to continue working and learning. It's not a perfect fit, but, in its imperfection, this new normal has revealed another layer of creativity and grit.

Nowhere is this more evident than with Lee Whitcher, who, three months into his job as AE lab manager, had to shut down all AE labs due to COVID-19.

It took him less than a day to interpret this situation as an opportunity to help others fight the virus. In so doing, he strengthened the fiber of the entire community.

As we continue our journey into this new normal, there are bound to be other unanticipated challenges - for the AE School, and for you. It is my hope that we all take a step back, like Lee, and look for solutions hidden in the gloom.

That's what engineers do. And, for the foreseeable future, we're all engineers in this together.
