Friday Check-in, April 3rd:

This Sunday we're going to be celebrating Palm Sunday as well as the Lord's Supper (Communion) during our livestream service.

We want to celebrate both of these together as a community, which means you may need to plan ahead.

  1. To help celebrate Palm Sunday, find and bring in a palm frond or some leaves from outside, or you can print out/color/cut the Palm Branch image attached to the blue button below. During our time of greeting or during our "Palm Sunday Prayer" please take a picture of you or your family member waving it. You can post your picture to Wellspring's Facebook page, or text it to me during service at (808) 741-1335 so I can post it for you. :) It will be great to see each other's faces as we share in welcoming Jesus into our city and homes on this road to the cross.
  2. For Communion, any kind of drink will do for the grape juice, whether juice, milk, tea, or wine. For the bread, anything that can be broken in two is preferred, (bread, cracker, cookie). If you have cooked rice available, that's OK too. Before Sunday's service, have your elements ready to go so we can take communion together after the sermon. Feel free to take a photo of you or your family taking communion, too, and post it to help us remember that we are together even in this time of physical distancing.

A Holy Week unlike any other--

We're coming up on a Holy Week that will be unlike any we've ever experienced.

I was so looking forward to setting up and walking through Stations of the Cross with you all on Good Friday, and hearing the sound of many voices raised in song, seeing the halau worship through dance, and participating in placing flowers into the cross on Easter Sunday.

Although disappointing, this disruption of the way we normally observe and celebrate this season can draw us closer to the very first Holy Week, a week full of disappointment, tragedy, joy and surprise. It was a week where the way of the universe itself was disrupted as God's Son took the low place, walked the way to the cross, and showed us how much God really will go to save us.

As our normal ways of observing and celebrating this next week are disrupted, I pray that it provides us with a new perspective and draws us closer to God's gift of Jesus. I pray that we each use this time to reach out to friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and share the hope Jesus brings, the home we've found with each other and in the life of God.

Next week we'll be sending out packets for activities for families to go through as we celebrate Good Friday & Easter together. We've also written a daily Holy Week devotional for your use entitled "Journey to the Cross," which is attached below.
