New Resources on the Boston Website

New resources are continually being added to our website under the tab "COVID-19 Resources." In the last few days, some new boxes on the page have also appeared.

The box that previously had information from the Centers for Disease Control now has additional resources to help sessions and pastors understand how the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the CARES Act may impact our congregations. Please pay particular attention to the information on the CARES Act, which allows non-profits to apply for loans to help cover expenses related to payroll and building maintenance.

A new box on the page holds resources particular to planning for Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter as we continue to love one another by staying home and gathering virtually. If your congregation has a resource you are willing to share, please send it to me!

A third box now holds resources particular to the Presbytery and the steps we are taking to support congregations and ministers during this time. Grants and loans are available to help offset the costs of becoming a virtual worshiping community and help with salary and ministry needs, as well as emergency grants for minister members of the Presbytery. The applications are posted.

Under PC(USA) Resources, you will also find a new Advisory Opinion issued by the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly regarding the ability to celebrate communion virtually. Click here to see that document.

Unwelcome, Yet Responsible, Preparations

What preparations do you have in place in case your pastor gets sick? Or your clerk of session? What if one of your essential leaders dies?

These are uncomfortable questions, and yet being prepared is important. Here are a few things to think about:

  • Be sure more than one person knows how to log into the church computer, the church website, the church email, and any social media sites the church is found on.
  • Be sure the church's email list or email program is accessible to more than one person.
  • Share the login information for Zoom or Youtube or other streaming/gathering platform with key leadership in the church.
  • Make sure that more than one person is able to access the church's financial information and bank account
  • Make sure that Session records are accessible to at least one other person besides the Clerk of Session.

In the case of an emergency, do not hesitate to contact Cindy or T.J.. Consider sharing the list of your key leaders with us along with the information about who has access to what. The Commission on Ministry is meeting this week and will be considering other ways to help support you if emergency aid is needed.
