Life in a pandemic rāhui

Over the past few weeks, as the situation with COVID-19 has unfolded, we have faced many changes in the way we go about our daily lives. For the next month, we will be a nation of bubble-dwellers.

Staying in your bubble helps keep you, your whānau and our communities safer by slowing down the spread of COVID-19. It also helps the healthcare system give people with the virus the care they need.

However, being in lockdown does create other challenges. For some, the sacrifice has been huge. If you are struggling and doing it tough right now, we send you much aroha.

No matter what your situation, living with uncertainty can increase feelings of anxiety and fear. In this time of self-isolation, the need for connectedness and community has never been stronger.

To help you in the process of making sense of this situation, we have developed a range of resources to support you to look after yourself, your whānau and your community.

Telehealth services

Where possible, most GP consults are temporarily being done over the phone or by video call, known as 'telehealth'. Find out more:

Sign up for the flu tracker

The Ministry of Health is urging you to sign up to Flu Tracker to report flu symptoms and whether you have been tested for COVID-19. It only takes a few seconds a week and it’s another way we can help our health providers manage these situations.

Photo competition winners!

Over summer, Health Navigator ran a photo competition asking people to show us what being connected meant to them. We received hundreds of amazing entries and are delighted to announce the winners:
  • Margaret Wikaire, winner of the whānau category.
  • Julie Wade-Moyle, winner of the hauora category.
  • Roma Versoza, winner of the tūrangawaewae category.

We're running another competition!

Based on the popularity of our last competition, and to give you an opportunity to share your lockdown experience, we're running a 'staying connected while staying at home' photo competition.

It's a chance for you to show us through photography how you're staying connected with your friends, whānau and community during the nationwide rāhui ( lockdown ). The competition will run until we move from alert level 4.

Learn more and enter here.

You can also follow Unite against COVID-19 on Facebook and see the Ministry of Health's Facebook page or Twitter channel for the latest updates.
