Dear Castro Neighbors and Friends,
We have some good news to report! The Castro CBD is well on its way to being renewed! On March 30th, we passed the 30% threshold we needed to move past the petition phase. Now we are moving forward towards the actual election.
Renewal you may ask, what's that? The Castro CBD is primarily funded through assessment fees. An assessment fee is placed on every parcel in the CBD's footprint and this fee appears on the property tax bill for that parcel. The property owner is ultimately responsible for paying the assessment fee. When the Castro Community Benefit District was established in 2005, it was established with the approval of the property owners for a 15-year term, to expire in December 2020. To continue services, the Castro CBD must once again go back to the property owners and ask for approval for another 15 years.
Renewal requires:
1) Petition Phase: Approval of 30% of the weighted assessments from the property owners in the district - ACHIEVED!!
2) Election Phase: Approval of a majority of the weighted assessments of the votes received.
3) Approval of the CBD by the S.F. Board of Supervisors and the Mayor
The Castro CBD looks forward to continuing our work with all of you as we dedicate ourselves to improving the Castro & Upper Market. This is especially important now, as we are all struggling with the impacts of the coronavirus. Please help your neighbors and help our small businesses.

After receiving COVID-19 training, our Clean Team is back to serving the neighborhood as an essential service. If you see them, please give a friendly wave. Currently the Castro Clean Team is working Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, Monday and Wednesday 7am - 3:30 pm. This schedule is subject to change. The clean team dispatch number is 415-471-7536.

Your Ballots will be put in the mail at the end of May, look for your official mail-in ballot from the SF Department of Elections in early June.
The San Francisco Neighborhood Empowerment Network (NEN) encourages everyone put a lamp (not a candle!) in their front window and leave it on until you go to bed. This creates a sense of community among our residents, many of whom may feel isolated and alone during this time.
The idea was branded “The Unity Light in the Night” campaign and the NEN hopes you’ll join in this simple and visible way to let your neighbors know that we are in this together.
