Kia ora Shift whānau!

We hope everyone is surviving the first full week of lockdown. It is a strange time for us all, and we hope that everyone is staying safe, looking after their wellbeing and being kind to those around you.

The Shift Crew (that’s a few of us above on Zoom!) are super keen to share cool stuff going on across Aotearoa (and the world) and get the lowdown on what you are up to during lockdown, so we thought we would produce a weekly eNewsletter that you can contribute content to… and of course there will be prizes up for grabs!

If you're a young woman between 12-20 years old, share with us what you’re doing, reading, watching, any tips or skills that you are discovering and be in to win! More deets below.

Stay safe. Be kind. Save lives.

Arohanui, the Shift crew xox

In true co-design fashion, we want to know what prizes would be awesome or helpful to win during this time? If you come across something you LOVE on social media then tag @shiftfoundationnz and comment 'PRIZE idea' (Don't go crazy..we are talking $10-$200 per idea!)  Or you can email us your ideas!

HOW TO TAKE PART (AND WIN!)
In the spirit of young women’s wellbeing we have themed this eNewsletter around the Five Ways to Wellbeing

CONNECT // ME WHAKAWHANAUNGA
TAKE NOTICE // ME ARO TONU
KEEP LEARNING // ME AKO TONU
BE ACTIVE // ME KORI TONU
GIVE // TUKUA

We really want to share your ways of keeping well during lockdown so please either:

  1. Tag @shiftfoundationnz on social media and #lockdownlowdown if you post a photo of something you want to share (this could be something you created, cooked, drew or wrote or maybe it’s you getting active during this time)

  2. Email us a copy/photo of something you have written, created, cooked, drew, did!

Each week we will include content from YOU, other inspo and announce the lucky draw prize winner! The more you share, the more chances you have of winning! What are you waiting for? Tell us what you want to win and share your creativity with us and others, to keep the positive vibes going during lockdown.

NEW TEAMIES

This lockdown is far from slowing us down! Shift is expanding and we have two new amazing teamies to introduce. Greer (left) is returning to Shift Wellington. If you don't know this amazing soul, Greer is a huge fan of old school pop, CrossFit and every dog out there! Welcome back, Greer!

Amy (right) is new to the Upper Hutt team! Amy has been a youth worker for 5 years. She loves baking sourdough bread and making Kantha quilts, and has visited India 3 times. She says "India is the one place in the world where I feel most calm and at peace." Welcome to the Shifterhood, Amy!

Our team is growing and so is our aroha for our work, our people, our communities and for you! Feel free to connect with any teamies at anytime, our ears, hearts and minds are always open. Big thank you to Wellington City Council and Kickstart Youth as our Wellington and Upper Hutt Shift partners.
SHIFT LOWER HUTT

You know about our Lower Hutt partner right? Ignite Sport? And they lead Shift Lower Hutt.... You have probably heard all about Shift Lower Hutt.... But now you can LIKE, FOLLOW, CONNECT, REACT and DM Shift Lower Hutt as they are finally on IG! Hooray!

ISOLATION NOT ISOLATED

All Right? have put together some great articles and resources for staying connected and looking after your wellbeing during COVID-19 isolation. Their campaign is called Getting Through Together. Check it out if you need more inspiration for coping with the lockdown!

#IsolationNotIsolated #GettingThroughTogether #Hewakaekenoa
There are still lots of ways you can GIVE and help others during this strange time. This can be a key way to grow your own wellbeing and self-esteem too!
  • Can you help your community by supporting vulnerable and elderly folks?
  • Maybe you mowed your neighbours front lawn?
  • Does your younger sibling need help with their school work?
  • Remember, you can still connect virtually with your friends and be a listening ear for those who are struggling.
  • Perhaps you could cook dinner or bake for your family or those in your bubble!
Here's a slice of inspiration...
Plum tart anyone? Click the image above to reveal the recipe... Yum!! We look forward to hearing how you have been spreading the love in your own "bubble" (just make sure that you follow the isolation rules to keep everyone safe).
LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR

Now more than ever we are encouraged to look local, look inwards and support each other by staying at home and staying safe. But how well do you know your neighbourhood? Whilst you can still get out and about getting fresh air and exercise, some people may not be able to. Get creative, leave notes in letterboxes, help out with the supermarket shop and check in on those more vulnerable. Take notice of your surroundings and support local people, businesses and communities.
WHAT'S THAT I HEAR?

We are all adjusting to this new way of living at the moment. While you're trying to adapt and navigate this interesting time we encourage you to stop, take a breath, and reflect. Take notice of what is going on around…

One of the things you might notice while you're out and about is beautiful bird song!

There are many unique birds in Aotearoa, but do you recognise the bird behind the song? While you're out walking you can use a free app like Birds of New Zealand LITE, or the NZ birds website to help you identify the feathered friends who are all around us. If you get the birding bug, you might even take part in the nation wide bird atlas... What a great reason to get outside!
SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES

The Conversation Collective is a unique podcast SHIFT-ing perspectives on young women’s wellbeing. From concept to content, this podcast has been co-designed, created and recorded by a team of young women aged 14-19 years. They are Ronia, Jess, Cayla, Kaityln, Gina, and Brooke!

We are proud to announce that you now can listen to our first episode on the Shift website, Spotify and Apple podcasts! You can also find a transcript of each episode on our website.

The Conversation Collective team are speaking to some fabulous guests (soon to be revealed!) and having eye opening conversations on everything from education to identity. We will hear why movement is so important to wellbeing, how inclusivity in education can shape aspirations, and we’ll learn how to uncover the core values that make you who you are.

So tune it - and listen up!
