Dear friends,

At this ever-changing time, we understand the importance to stay connected as a community.  We will continue our Sunday worship service through Facebook live at 9:30am each Sunday.  Our Good Friday service will also be streamed through Facebook live at 8:30am on Friday 10th April.  We will continue to send out a 'service from home' each Wednesday to help you join in our streamed service, or to use for private prayer and reflection.  We continue to email new series "Did you think of this?".

Our Tuesday service and Wednesday mediation have been cancelled at the moment.  Updates will be posted in our weekly newsletter as well on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/MerthyrRoadUnitingChurch/  and our website https://www.merthyrroaduca.com.au/
As always you can contact me on 0421 234 541 or Debbie on 3358 6945 or office@mruca.org.au

Even though we are unable to gather in person at the present time, there has still been lots happening at Merthyr Road.  Our church renovation continues to progress, and the metal-work is receiving some much needed restoration (see photos below).  In this uncertain time, we have been able to provide employment for 9 people while abiding by physical distancing requirements.

Yours, in Christ,
Murray Fysh
Minister

Weekly Reading

Reading
Matthew 21:1-11

1When they had come near Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2saying to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, just say this, ‘The Lord needs them.’ And he will send them immediately.4This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying,
5  “Tell the daughter of Zion,
Look, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; 7they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. 8A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
   Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

10When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” 11The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Reflection

A few years ago, performing artist Joshua Ladgrove developed an improvisational comedy show called Come Heckle Christ.  The premise was that Ladgrove would dress as Jesus and people would be encouraged to jeer at him, ask questions or throw things at his head.  Many people were outraged, including some Christian communities and the show hit the headlines. Two days after the initial newspaper article came out condemning the show, another article was printed. The new headline was that ticket sales to the show had increased by 60%.

If you had the chance to go to “heckle” Christ, what would you yell out at Joshua Ladgrove dressed as Jesus? If you had the chance to yell out in the crowd at Jesus, what might you say?
