The 2nd Women Leadership Workshop 2020: Commitment to Empower Women Leaders
4 March 2020 | GOA – UCLG ASPAC, in close collaboration with the All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG), continues its commitment to promote gender equality in local governance through the 2nd Women Leadership Workshop 2020 (WLW2020), with the theme “Mainstreaming Gender Perspective in Local Governance.” The one-day event held in Cida de de Goa (India) on 4 March 2020 was attended by more than 200 participants representing local and central governments, local government associations, universities, non-governmental organisations, women’s and special interest groups. Joining Global Network to Co-Create the Future at the 6th UCLG Retreat and Campus
24-28 February 2020 | TANGIER – UCLG ASPAC joined forces with key actors in the municipal movement to amplify the voice of Asia-Pacific at the annual UCLG Retreat and Campus hosted by the city of Tangier. Now on its 6th year, the week-long gathering focused on what can be done together through what has been dubbed as “superpowers”, in order to foster transformative diplomacy and synchronisation as we usher in the Implementation Decade of the Agenda 2030. UCLG ASPAC took an active role at the Retreat through the participation of Mayor Madelaine Alfelor of Iriga (Philippines) who was elected as UCLG Treasurer and delegation from Xi’an representing Mayor Li Mingyuan who was elected as Co-President representing Asia-Pacific. Tangerang Strengthens Community-Based Climate Actions through 'Kampung Proklim' Programme
The City Administration of Tangerang has long realised that climate change is a critical issue that can significantly affect the city and its citizens. The trapped Green House Gas (GHG) emission in the atmosphere has resulted in the increase of global temperature. In Tangerang, the impact of global warming is tangible in the forms of extreme weather, change of rain patterns, and increase of temperature and sea level. Responding to this, local government of Tangerang highly supports the initiative of Indonesian national government to apply Climate-Friendly Village (Kampung Proklim) programme. Led by the Mayor, Mr. Arief R. Wismansyah, under the city’s Environmental Agency, Tangerang has shown its commitment by allocating local budget to establish 50 climate-friendly villages started in 2019. Click

BREXIT: Braille E-Ticket and Extraordinary Access for Visual Disabilities, Innovation from Malang
There are many ways to implement and achieve “Leaving No One Behind” goal. For local government of Malang (East Java), it translates into an innovation called BREXIT, standing for Braille E-Ticket and Extraordinary Access for Visual Disabilities. As what the term suggests, BREXIT aims to ensure that existing health services are accessible to local people with visual disability. Through BREXIT, local government of Malang provides access and supporting facilities that enable local people with visual disability independently and easily access the health facility. Facilities provided include guiding block heading to community health centre, guiding carpet inside the health centre (as guidance to various points), as well as incorporating braille letter on sign boards of registration counter, health check counter, and medicine counter. How Does Guangzhou Adapt to COVID-19 Crisis?
China’s economic and social development has been hampered since the outbreak of COVID-19has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 11 March 2020. However, the country is recovering its vitality back again as the number of domestic infected cases decrease. While people are advised to continue avoiding mobility or gatherings to prevent the virus from spreading, work forces in China are stepping out of their domiciles to the work places with various precautions. Let’s take a look at Guangzhou, an active member of UCLG ASPAC, as an example. Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province and one of China’s national central cities. It has 991 of the city’s 995 projects under construction and 98 of its 343 planned new projects resumed as of 23 March 2020, of which nearly 60% are industrial projects. Click
