Visualizations of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths are everywhere, but can they all be trusted? How can a visualization convey a clear message about COVID-19 while faithfully conveying uncertainty around available estimates?   Dr. Jessica Hullman, a professor of computer science and journalism at Northwestern University, and Dr. Matthew Kay, a professor of information at the University of Michigan, will critique popular visualizations of COVID-19 and discuss interpretation pitfalls as well as successful strategies for visualizing uncertainty.

In this week's webinar hosted by Northwestern’s Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, Northwestern Medicine infectious disease expert and executive director of Northwestern’s Institute for Global Health, Dr. Robert Murphy, spoke about these issues and how we can blunt the impact of COVID-19 before it’s too late.

On March 17th, Northwestern University cultural and medical anthropologist Adia Benton discussed topics central to the COVID-19 pandemic in a webinar hosted by Northwestern’s Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. The webinar raised provocative questions related to what is and isn’t known about COVID-19 and its transmission dynamics, as well as the implications of the response to COVID-19 for various forms of governance and our global society as a whole.
