Atlanta, GA –  On April 1, 2020, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, Center for Pan Asian Community Services, and the members of Georgia Asian American and Pacific Islander Census Complete Count Committee (GA AAPI CCC) are celebrating Census Day by mobilizing AAPI community members across Georgia to get counted in the 2020 Census. The Georgia AAPI CCC includes people and networks who live and work in the communities most at risk of being missed in the 2020 Census. As trusted local messengers, these organizations are able to communicate the facts about census, provide resources to facilitate participation, and address community members’ concerns.

Since the launch of the Coalition in 2019, the Georgia AAPI CCC members have organized digitally and directly on-the-ground, including outreach to senior centers, schools, consulates, and other community gatherings, providing technical assistance, and in-language information in 19 languages via aapicensusga.org. With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, organizations and community groups are utilizing social media and online platforms to reach diverse communities by sharing stories, hosting online campaigns, and sharing how-to videos.

"Asian Americans are the fastest growing population in Georgia. Census Day, April 1, 2020, is our opportunity to have a record of this growth. This data will impact our communities for the next decade, determining among many other things, funding for health services and public health programs. Today, more than ever we are experiencing the need for these investments. Census data is a powerful tool to advocate for the resources and representation our communities deserve,” says Stephanie Cho, Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta.

"As our communities continue to thrive in Georgia, the existence of our communities in the Census process will inform decision-makers on vital services and programs that will impact schools, roads, health care, businesses, and how our communities access these services. We get one chance to take an accurate snapshot of our communities and that chance happens now and every 10 years. As a community, we must encourage our communities to participate in Census 2020,” says Victoria Huynh, Vice President of the Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Inc. (CPACS).

Although AAPIs are a rapidly growing demographic, these communities are among the most undercounted, especially children, elderly, and multi-family households. The Georgia AAPI CCC encourages all AAPIs to self-respond to the 2020 Census online, over the phone, or via mail if households have received the paper form. The Census can be completed online at my2020census.gov in 12 languages. For support connecting to resources, please call the following hotlines:
