The Mental Health Act, 2001
This month saw the 5th anniversary of the publication of the Expert Group Review of the Mental Health Act, 2001. To date, just 2 of the 165 amendments have come into force.

On the 26th March,  the Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Bill 2020 was heard in the Dáil. The Bill included amendments to the Mental Health Act, 2001, which will mainly impact the standard operation of Mental Health Tribunals.

MHR acknowledge that these measures are being introduced in extraordinary times in response to the current public health emergency. As part of this ongoing review, it is essential that there is a robust mechanism for the individual's voice to be heard and to be heard effectively. MHR and our member organisations will keep a close eye on the impact of this legislation on individuals and families.
