Dear Hochberg Lower School Families,

First of all, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support through our school’s transition to online learning. This has been a new experience for all of us, and our success is measured through our students’ smiling faces during their online sessions, the positive feedback you have shared, and the tremendous efforts by our teachers to ensure that the learning and routines of our students continue as much as possible.

Passover is a time when we remember and reflect on the Israelite’s exodus from Egypt; when we were brought from slavery to freedom. Each year, we gather together with family and friends to retell the story, ask questions, sing songs, taste bitter herbs and sweet haroset, and rejoice that next year we will celebrate together in Jerusalem! While this year’s seder will undoubtedly be different, I am hoping we can all still find the blessings and reasons to celebrate. I am grateful for this incredible community and for your continued support of your children and the learning we accomplish together.

While we do not know how long these arrangements will continue, we are prepared to continue delivering online instruction and meeting our academic benchmarks through these online learning platforms. I am excited to share that when we return from Passover our students’ schedules will include live Zoom sessions from their specialty teachers in Art, Music, PE, STEM, and Media Center. Our classes in Language Arts and Math will continue Monday through Thursday, integrating science and social studies as well. We look forward to continuing to celebrate and welcome Shabbat together on Fridays and adding additional programs over the next several weeks. We recognize that schedules and routines are extremely important for children during this time and we want to do everything we can to keep this consistent.

Please continue to be in touch with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or need support in any way. Please also feel free to reach out to our school nurse, school counselor or me if there is any way we can be supporting you and your family during this time.

May we be blessed with health, safety, and happiness as we enter the holiday of Passover! Wishing all of our Hochberg Lower School families a chag kasher v’sameach!

B'Shalom,

Dr. Dayna Wald
