Devotional

I have thought much about Christ’s life as a man on earth. He, to me, faced many of the struggles we face today as men on earth. My belief is that Christ had many of the fears we face: loss of loved ones, being unpopular to the point of death, and disappointment of those around him, just to name a few. I remember a late night TV show, possibly Carson or Letterman, and he had a list of the top 10 reasons for something. I believe Christ never really had a bad day. His days were filled with the love of those around Him and His work to bring the people He loved to His Father and eternal life.

In taking from Carson, or perhaps Letterman, I would like to suggest my thoughts on each perfect day of Christ. Please think about these in reflection of our short days here on earth! Please stay with me; I mean no disrespect to our Lord and Savior, nor am I worried about the others. Here are my attempts to understand why Christ never had a bad day.
  • He walked everywhere He went; He took his friends; sometimes He took a boat and rested.
  • Christ did not have concerns about His dress; His shoes were probably pretty worn.
  • Christ spoke to just about everybody, never judged, loved little kids.
  • He was completely honest with folks without being hurtful, He was without compromise in His love for folks.
  • Somehow as a man He seemed to have an unequaled ability to listen, through His listening people knew He loved them.
  • When He was angry, folks knew about it, but He never withdrew His love.
  • He set high standards, which were never compromised, which somehow always seemed to help folk become better people.
  • Christ had the glorious gift of knowing His work, which His Father had given Him, was so important to bring others to Christ, He wanted to complete the task of His Father. This provided a meaning and a passion to His life.
  • He realized life is short and prepared Himself for His death and resurrection.
  • He prayed frequently and encouraged folks around Him to pray. His prayers were many times private conservations between Him and His Father, almost continuously. He prayed for Himself and those around Him without failure.
Prayer

May these “Top Ten,” in no particular order, provide us an opportunity to reflect on our very busy, crowded lives. Amen.
