MISSING HOCKEY?

SPMHA understands and shares the disappointment that every hockey player, family and fan is feeling right now.  As a passionate hockey community we need to stay positive during this unprecedented time of challenge and help lift each other up.  Being part of a hockey team provides our youth an excellent opportunity to build their strength and leadership skills, while teaching them how do deal with challenges and adversity.  We are hopeful that some of these skills are benefiting them now.   At times like this we truly see the value of this, and we're glad to have strong leadership to guide us through the challenges we face.

At this point there are still more questions than answers.  All Strathcona County recreation facilities are closed until June 15th.  Following Hockey Alberta's lead, we are planning for next season as usual and will adapt appropriately should it become necessary.  Rest assured, hockey will be back, and SPMHA will be better and stronger than ever!

Thank you for your support and understanding as we face and navigate these challenges.  For more county specific updates, visit strathcona.ca/covid19

Stay Safe & Healthy!

SPMHA LOOKS TO HOST VIRTUAL AGM  & BOARD ELECTION

Due to COVID-19 mass gathering restrictions, the Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Association will NOT be able to host its Annual General Meeting & Board Elections on April 22nd as planned.  While we look to move ahead by hosting a "virtual" online AGM and Election, it requires us to make some adjustments to our bylaws, which currently only allow for "in-person" voting.  In place of the originally planned AGM, SPMHA has already put out a notice for a Special Meeting for Bylaw Amendment to be held on April 22nd with members who have registered to vote.  Once the bylaws have been amended, we will provide notice of a new "Virtual" AGM date, likely to occur in late May.

Nominations closed on April 8th.  The list of positions and nominees are available HERE on the SPMHA website.  Any position with two nominees (with the exception of Members-at-Large) will require a membership vote.

DECLARING 2020 HOCKEY EDMONTON SUBWAY EFHL CHAMPIONS

Hockey Edmonton would like to help their athletes end this season on a more celebratory note and therefore they have decided to declare winners for the 2020 Hockey Edmonton Subway EFHL Championships. After much thought they decided that it was important to celebrate the success of the teams who had performed well throughout the Subway EFHL Championships. Unfortunately, the season came to an abrupt end but they hope that this will bring the season to a proper close.

Gold and silver medal winners were determined based on playoff performance and were mostly determined by round robin play. Please see the list below for the full list of gold and silver medal teams along with individual descriptions of how the teams were chosen.

SPMHA TO RELEASE MEMBERSHIP PULSE SURVEY

Keep an eye on your email inbox next week.  In an effort to collect opinions on our current program, potential initiatives and trends, SPMHA will be asking all it's members to fill out a pulse survey on a number of different topics relating to your experiences in SPMHA.  Short of joining the SPMHA board, this is your best opportunity to help shape the future of hockey in our association, so we highly encourage you to provide open, honest and constructive feedback.  We all thank-you in advance for taking the time to participate in the survey!

END-OF-SEASON COACH EVALS

Better late than never, SPMHA will also be sending out our end-of-season coach evaluations to your inboxes shortly.  Providing your feedback helps SPMHA develop our coaches and assists in identifying and recognizing the coaches that are already doing a spectacular job!  When you receive your invitation to the evaluation form, please take the time to provide your constructive feedback. Thanks!

MIDGET GRADUATION POSTPONED

(but not cancelled)
SPMHA is STILL  looking to host a Graduation night for all graduated Midget players once deemed safe to do so.  We will continue to evaluating our options, and will be contacting the families of all graduated players once we are able to set a revised date for this event.  While we are committed to recognizing our longest serving players, we must also consider the health and safety of all.  We're looking forward to seeing all of you together one last time!
